Business Development Strategist – Skanska
(Seattle, WA)
Overview Skanska is searching for a Business Development Strategist to join our Seattle team. The role requires full‑time office presence with occasional regional and national travel. The position reports to the Seattle General Manager with a secondary connection to the SVP of National Business Development.
Core Responsibilities
Identify, attend and participate in industry events; engage operations teams to build relationships that generate project leads.
Develop and maintain industry relationships with clients, owner representatives, architects, engineers and subcontractors aligned with leadership expectations.
Actively identify potential strategic recruits to support business needs.
Build an internal Skanska network leveraging best practices and coordinating with peers on national accounts.
Promote Skanska’s brand in the region.
Lead and facilitate strategic identification of new business leads; support full pre‑proposal planning to position Skanska competitively.
Develop and manage business plans for market sectors and create connection plans that engage key stakeholders.
Hold individuals accountable for client interactions and deliver project and account insights.
Collaborate with account managers, operations and marketing to create compelling pursuit themes and market differentiation.
Bring pursuit‑specific intelligence to shape proposal messaging and interview strategy, ensuring insights from client priorities, competitor positioning and market trends influence our value proposition.
Provide presentation and content coaching to teams and individuals in the interview process.
Provide consistent, quantitative pursuit and lead reporting to leadership.
Use software platforms (Salesforce, Power BI, Oxford Economics, etc.) to support data‑informed decisions.
Identify market trends and condense information into concise materials for leaders and operations.
Record and track competitor proposals and terms in Salesforce.
Proactively anticipate leadership needs and assist in ideation and sales effort planning.
Lead training efforts to promote a sales culture throughout the organization.
Identify key positions and facilitate coaching to support career growth.
Use multiple technologies to conduct research supporting data‑informed decision making.
Develop and manage the local business development plan and budget.
Qualifications
10+ years of experience in Business Development, Strategy, Operations or Management.
8+ years working with commercial design and construction businesses and the Pacific Northwest market.
8+ years working with design firms, clients and owner representatives.
8+ years tracking competitor information.
Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering, Business, Marketing or related field.
Salary USD 130,000.00 – 180,000.00 per year.
