Associate Scientist, Product Development Work Schedule:

Monday-Friday, core hours 8am-5pm. 100% on-site (San Diego).

Catalent, Inc. is a leading global Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO). Our San Diego facility focuses on early-stage development of small molecule and peptide drug candidates from bench to clinic, providing services that support oral and injectable dosage forms. It includes preformulation testing, formulation and analytical development, cGMP manufacturing, clinical packaging, labeling, and worldwide distribution. The facility is also home to our Cyclone Spray Drying technologies with downstream roller compaction capabilities.

The Role:

The Associate Scientist will learn techniques such as blending, milling, compression, solubility assessment, solution and suspension preparation, capsule filling, blend sampling, tablet coating, granulation, and spray drying. Analytical techniques introduced may include pH, osmolality, viscosity, particle size, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray diffraction (PXRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), powder characterization, dissolution, disintegration, spectrophotometry, and chromatography. You will be a key member of a multi-site mission to deliver unparalleled service to clients and quality drug products to patients.

Conduct formulation development and characterization activities under supervision.

Prepare reports, summaries, protocols, batch records, and quantitative analyses.

Maintain clear and accurate record keeping in laboratory notebooks and perform secondary review of colleagues’ work for scientific accuracy and compliance, as assigned.

Support client interaction under supervisor guidance and develop problem‑solving skills for experimental outcomes.

Design and execute experiments under a supervisor’s direction.

Receive training on scientific techniques, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and International Council for Harmonisation (ICH) guidance. Comply with good housekeeping and safety practices.

Perform other duties as assigned.

The Candidate:

4‑year degree (Bachelor’s) in a physical, chemical, biological, or pharmaceutical science.

No experience required in formulation development; formal laboratory training highly preferred.

Highly detail‑oriented, organized, and able to work independently as well as part of a team with a positive attitude.

Physical requirements: ability to walk, sit, stand, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms at or above shoulder height and below waist height, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk, hear, smell; lift up to 40 lbs; visual inspection of materials and use of computer monitor screen frequently.

Pay:

The anticipated salary range for this role in San Diego, CA is $60,000 – $74,000 annually. Final salary will be based on factors such as experience, education, skills, and business needs.
