Director of Finance Our client is a prominent non-profit organization seeking a Director of Finance to join the executive management team in Portland, Oregon. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for the operational oversight of the Finance Department and the total financial health of the organization. As a strategic partner to the Executive Director, the Director of Finance ensures rigorous fiscal stewardship, maintains strong internal controls, and manages complex federal grant compliance. Main Responsibilities Financial Leadership & Strategy:

Lead the Finance Department and serve as a strategic advisor to the Executive Director, translating financial KPIs into actionable plans that support organizational growth. Operational Oversight:

Manage all core financial functions, including accounts payable, receivable, payroll, fund accounting, and multi-entity financial reporting. Compliance & Audit Management:

Act as the primary expert on OMB Uniform Guidance, P.L. 93-638 (ISDEAA), GAAP, and COSO internal controls. Lead all internal and external audit functions and IRS Form 990 requirements. Budgeting & Analysis:

Oversee the preparation of all consolidated and regional budgets, analyze financial trends, and suggest cost-reduction or growth strategies. Risk Management:

Identify and mitigate emerging financial risks while ensuring the organization meets a growing number of regulatory and legal standards. Board Relations:

Present comprehensive financial reports and presentations to the Board of Directors and Executive Committee, serving as the primary spokesperson for fiscal updates. Team Management:

Recruit, train, and supervise a team of over 120 professionals (direct supervision of two management-level staff), fostering a culture of professional excellence and integrity. Systems Administration:

Oversee the maintenance and optimization of financial software systems (such as Sage Intacct, Abila, or Rippling) to ensure high-quality data and reporting. Preferred Qualifications Education:

Master's degree in Finance or Accounting is required. An MBA or CPA certification is strongly preferred. Leadership Experience:

At least 10 years of experience as a Director of Finance or CFO within a non-profit setting, including 5 years of experience supervising professional staff. Grant Expertise:

Minimum of 5 years administering Federal, State, and private grants/contracts, including direct experience with audit preparation and Uniform Guidance compliance. Technical Proficiency:

Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with non-profit ERP systems (e.g., Sage Intacct, Microix, or Abila). Communication & Culture:

Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively across cross-cultural contexts. Must be a skilled presenter and technical writer.

Location: Portland, OR - Hybrid flexibility Salary: $165,000 - $195,000 Timing is everything.
