Summary

The position is located in the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), Office of Safety and Code Compliance (OSCC), Safety Division. OSCC establishes policy and conducts oversight to ensure compliance with safety, fire, and environmental laws and regulations. The incumbent is designated as “Emergency/Essential.” The selectee must be certified by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene or be eligible to sit for the exam within one year.

Responsibilities

Perform field inspections of proposed projects and participate in accident investigations in controlled facilities involving hazardous or unknown substances.

Plan and manage policies and programs related to hazardous building materials, indoor air quality, exposure assessments, and medical surveillance.

Prepare written reports based on data analysis and predict probable effects of exposures on worker health and well‑being.

Administer an industrial hygiene training program and disseminate information and exchange among health‑oriented organizations and program offices.

Serve as Contracting Officers Technical Representative (COTR) or equivalent to ensure accurate and adequate oversight of contractor performance.

Qualifications You must meet the United States Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) qualification requirements, including specialized experience and educational requirements for the advertised position, by the closing date of the announcement. Specialized Experience To be creditable, you must have at least 4 of the following specialized experience categories (equivalent to at least the next lower grade level). Candidates for the GS‑13 grade level must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower GS‑12 grade level in the Federal service.
