Fire Protection Engineer Architect of the Capitol – Office of the Chief of Operations, Superintendent Library Buildings and Grounds, Assistant Superintendent Facilities Support Division.

Summary This Senior Fire Protection Engineer assists the Supervisory Fire Protection Engineer in maintaining and improving fire protection systems, fire alarm systems, and utilities in the Library Buildings and Grounds.

Duties • Design, troubleshooting, and installation of fire protection and fire alarm systems.

• Coordinate with contractors and in‑house workers on fire protection system installation, maintenance, and repair.

• Develop agency‑wide fire protection policies, standards, regulations, practices, and procedures to eliminate or control potential fire hazards.

• Survey existing fire protection and fire alarm systems, develop working drawings, prepare cost estimates, and determine alternative layouts for feasibility and economy.

Requirements You must meet the United States Office of Personnel Management (OPM) qualification requirements for the advertised position, including educational and specialized experience standards and be eligible and qualified by the closing date.

Specialized Experience

GS‑14: At least 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to GS‑13 in the Federal service, including mastery of design, troubleshooting, and familiarity with installation, maintenance, and repair of fire protection systems.

GS‑13: At least 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to GS‑12, including surveying existing fire protection and fire alarm systems, developing working drawings, preparing preliminary cost estimates, and determining alternate layouts.

GS‑12: At least 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to GS‑11, including developing details of working drawings and preparing preliminary cost estimates.
