Responsibilities

Ensures trainees understand and demonstrate documentation of patient food allergies, intolerances, and food preferences in a timely fashion.

Teaches modified diet meal patterns to trainees and ensures competency in modifying diets as necessary, including tallying special food orders.

Operates the hospital’s computer systems and understands use of the fax machine.

Communicates proper patient information to the Food & Nutrition Leadership team, Clinical Nutrition team, Nursing, food service peers, or ancillary team members as needed.

Relates cooperatively and constructively with patients, staff, and guests.

Promotes a positive impression of the Food and Nutrition department.

Leads team in the collection of patient meal trays, processing guest trays, reviewing patient meal selections, and applying customer service techniques.

Provides training on proper meal delivery, isolation precautions, customer interaction, and service recovery.

Models essential service behaviors such as excellent communication and customer service skills with patients, nursing staff, visitors, and other team members, communicating in an open, honest, gracious, and compassionate manner at all times.

Coordinates daily operation of patient services.

Responds to patient complaints and follows up with appropriate teams.

Provides food service to patients as assigned by the Team Leader.

Performs as a team member with peers.

Interacts appropriately with a culturally diverse population.

Follows the chain of command when communicating departmental and individual concerns or problems.

Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.

Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Oversees Patient Food Hospitality Attendant duties and other related duties.

Participates in departmental meetings and all related in‑services and PI activities.

Assists Food Service Supervisor or Manager in developing in‑services to improve quality in designated areas.

Ensures portion controls, tray delivery standards, and guest tray processes are followed by staff.

Is knowledgeable of basic therapeutic diets to enhance patient meal selection and satisfaction.

Prevents Food‑Borne Illness (F.B.I.) and follows Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) precautions as they apply to food service.

Is knowledgeable of Patient Satisfaction goals and works consistently to exceed these objectives by reporting concerns and suggesting creative ideas.

Observes all departmental rules and regulations.

Recognizes priority and protects the patient’s right to confidentiality.

Refers patient problems to the Team Leader, Registered Dietitian, Clinical Nutrition Manager, or Food Service Director.

Recognizes that flexibility is paramount, embraces change, encourages continuous improvement, and is willing to be cross‑trained in varied positions.

Takes responsibility and accountability for trained staff and services related to patient services.

Qualifications

Ability to read and recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.

Ability to write simple correspondence.

Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers.

Must have basic math skills.

Basic computer skills are necessary.

Licensure/Certification: None.

Experience: One year experience in the Diet office or in an office clerical position.
