Job Overview The Advanced Endoscopy Tech II provides support to attending physicians and other team members by performing direct and indirect tasks that contribute to quality care for patients undergoing complex procedures.
Responsibilities
Assist the endoscopist during complex endoscopic procedures such as ERCP, Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), Endoscopic Mucosal Resection, Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection, Hemostasis, and Third Space Endoscopy.
Set up cautery settings for each interventional endoscopic procedure.
Mix agents such as saline, dye, cyanoacrylate in correct proportions for endoscopic procedures.
Assist the endoscopist and be familiar with long-wire exchanges during ERCP.
Know the accessories for each procedure and be proficient with cautery settings and other accessories to assist with endoscopic emergencies.
Provide endoscopic support for emergencies in the operating room, ICU and ER settings.
Operate state-of-the-art AV equipment for recording teaching videos.
Participate in the lab to assist the endoscopist with research and development of novel products and teach other allied professionals the intricacies of advanced endoscopic procedures.
Be available for emergency call coverage after 5 PM and on weekends.
Label and send specimens to the proper department/location for analysis in accordance with policy and procedure.
Communicate appropriate information regarding patient status, technical equipment, or unit concerns to necessary healthcare workers.
Prepare procedural suites for advanced GI and/or other interventional procedures.
Transport and deliver items, equipment, and medications (excluding controlled substances and IV chemotherapy drugs) throughout the facility.
Provide direct care to patients in admission and recovery as directed by the resource nurse, including nourishment, toileting assistance, discontinuation of IVs, and vital sign checks.
Maintain, clean, and store endoscopic equipment and supplies according to policy.
Facilitate efficient turnover time by prioritizing activities related to equipment and instrumentation needed for cases to follow in the assigned room.
Process pathology specimens according to established protocols.
Perform preventive maintenance and decontamination of endoscopes and other diagnostic equipment in compliance with established protocols.
Prepare and assist with research procedures.
Ensure all needed equipment and supplies are available for all procedures in a timely manner.
Identify changes in collected patient data and notify the nurse.
Apply knowledge of aseptic techniques.
Maintain reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other standards.
Maintain compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Other Related Functions
Maintain proper inventory of supplies.
Assist with technical intraprocedural interventions such as fine needle aspiration, guidewire exchanges, glue injections, and stent deployment.
Operate AV equipment for recording teaching cases and be familiar with fluoroscopy set-up during emergencies.
Qualifications Education/Training
High School diploma or GED required. Associate degree in a Biological/Medical field preferred. Medical Assistant Certificate preferred.
3–5 years related work experience required. Knowledge of medical terminology.
Technical and analytical abilities necessary to operate technical and electronic equipment and perform tests with a high degree of accuracy.
Able to anticipate the equipment needs of the operator during an interventional procedure to meet time and quality standards. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work with critically ill patients in emergency situations under high levels of stress.
Prior experience assisting with third space endoscopy such as POEM, gastric POEM, ESD, EMR, RFA, ERCP, and EUS is preferable.
Licensure/Certification
Maintain current BLS/Healthcare Provider Certification.
Experience
Minimum of three (3) years clinical experience. Solid experience with scope reprocessing is required.
