Scope of Position This position plays a vital role in recruiting and mentoring staff, coordinating summer camp and year‑round retreat programs, and supporting youth leadership initiatives. The Program Director ensures compliance with State, County, and ACA regulations and contributes to a positive camp environment through effective planning, communication, and guest services. The Program Director represents Camp both internally and externally, fostering relationships that enhance camp ministry, public engagement, and program growth.

Mission Alignment The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination. Camp Kuratli at Trestle Glen will be a Christian sanctuary of rest, discovery, and growth for the neediest children in Oregon and Southern Idaho.

Essential Qualifications

Committed Christian, seeking holiness through God’s grace in alignment with Wesleyan Theology.

Minimum High School Graduate or equivalent required.

Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.

At least three years of experience in leadership, program supervision, and customer relations; Christian camp leadership experience preferred.

Ability to manage social media accounts and website maintenance within TSA guidelines.

Valid driver’s license, First Aid, CPR, AED, Challenge Course, Lifeguard, and Food Handler certifications obtained within 90 days of hire.

Knowledge of Oregon Labor Laws, State/County regulations, ACA Standards, and Salvation Army Policies.

Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe, Photoshop, and TSA Camper Software.

Typing speed of 50 WPM; 60 WPM preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong character, integrity, adaptability, and ability to integrate faith into daily activities.

Effective written and verbal communication in English.

Self‑motivated, organized, and able to work independently or collaboratively.

Exceptional time management under seasonal and deadline‑driven conditions.

Leadership abilities, including planning, supervising, mentoring, and guiding staff.

Experience in developing leadership programs across various age groups.

Strong organizational, planning, and public speaking skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Recruit, interview, and complete hiring paperwork for summer and year‑round camp staff.

Supervise all assigned staff, assuming full supervisory responsibilities in the Camp Director’s absence.

Provide consistent supervision, motivation, and support; lead regular staff meetings and offer weekly debriefs to the Camp Director.

Oversee implementation of the emergency action plan and ensure emergency equipment is functional.

Ensure timely submission of all necessary information from rental groups and Salvation Army programs.

Uphold and enforce Camp policies and procedures; keep manuals accurate and updated.

Represent Camp professionally and build relationships for recruitment and promotion.

Develop and implement strategies for youth leadership development and staff retention.

Travel to Cascade Divisional Corps, Service Extension Units, and other sites to provide training on Camper Software; organize and lead parent informational events.

Assist the Camp Director in preparing the annual budget and support fundraising efforts.

Summer Camp Programs

Collaborate with the Camp Director and DYCS to achieve overall goals of summer camp programs.

Ensure all program activities are safe, age‑appropriate, and aligned with regulations and best practices.

Create and maintain detailed schedules and activity plans.

Stay current on trends in camping, youth development, and Christian ministry; recommend updates.

Plan and facilitate full orientation for all staff, including training sessions on safety topics and emergency action plans.

Oversee the youth mentoring program, Evergreen, in conjunction with regular summer programming.

Provide ongoing support, coaching, and mentorship to Evergreen participants.

Ensure all program‑related supplies and equipment are prepared and functional.

Maintain communication with Youth Department personnel for Camper Software registration.

Serve as the summer camp point of contact for parents, staff, and emergency services.

Participate in program sessions as time permits and model respectful behavior toward property.

Supervise end‑of‑summer cleanup inventory and provide a written summary of operations.

Lead a post‑camp debrief with staff and plan for future activities.

Retreats And Conferences

Assist in evaluating the potential value of partnering with rental groups, with final approval by the Camp Director.

Ensure facilities and equipment are clean, functional, and prepared for guest groups.

Greet arriving guests warmly and communicate rules and procedures.

Address guest needs, resolve concerns, and facilitate requests during stay.

Debrief with staff after each retreat and submit findings to the Camp Director.
