Job Description We’re re-launching our Civil Engineering Department in Seattle and seeking a Senior Discipline Civil Engineer to help build it from the ground up. This is a high-impact role for a proven technical leader who’s excited to shape a team, elevate client relationships, and grow a practice—with clear leadership responsibility and potential pathway to management/ownership (subject to company policies) in a well-established multi-discipline office.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers, designers, and technical staff
Foster a collaborative and high-performance work culture
Manage civil engineering projects from inception to completion, maintaining quality, schedule, and budget adherence
Provide technical oversight and quality control for designs, reports, and deliverables
Serve as a subject matter expert in civil engineering design, regulatory compliance, and industry best practices
Identify and pursue business opportunities
Develop and maintain relationships with clients, municipalities, and key stakeholders
Lead proposal development, contract negotiations, and project scope discussions
Monitor project profitability and implement process improvements as needed

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
Professional Engineer (PE) registration required
Registration in Washington (or ability to obtain within 6 months)
Registration in Oregon preferred
Minimum of 12 years of progressive civil engineering site development experience including the following:
Preparing fee and qualifications-based proposals
Managing multiple, concurrent projects
Leading design team efforts
Successfully managing project budgets and schedules
Interfacing with a multi-discipline design team
Mentoring junior staff
Client management
Technical experience with hydrologic and hydraulic calculations, technical studies, mapping documents, preparation and processing of civil construction documents, and earthwork calculations
Stormwater experience in Western Washington strongly preferred
Excellent communication, client service, and team leadership skills
Ability to foster long term client relationships
Business development interest and the ability to help win and grow work
Preferred Qualifications
Experience coordinating with a multi-discipline design team is strongly preferred
Experience collaborating with local architectural/engineering community is strongly preferred
Proficiency in AutoCAD/Civil 3D, Microsoft office and other software
Project experience in Industrial, Federal, and Alternative Energy / Energy Storage markets strongly preferred
Experience designing public utilities
Experience serving as a prime consultant
Experience with zoning entitlements and permit procurement
Ability to work with counterparts in other Coffman offices to share workload when required
Experience with managing day-to-day contacts with internal and external clients utilizing experience and technology to meet expectations
Experience attending and participating in local professional organizations
Specification preparation experience preferred

Must be a self-starter, persistent, and follow through in a consistent manner
Passionate about the client or pursuit and takes ownership of his/her work
Able to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
Possess strong critical thinking, organizational, and analytical abilities
Maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers
Strong understanding of A/E/C industry terminology and procedures and basic marketing principles
Strong organizational ability; detail oriented; high degree of accuracy
Must work well under pressure
Positive contributor to overall office and department goals, culture, and morale
Excellent time management skills
Ability to provide peer reviews of colleagues’ work product
Ability to work with counterparts in other offices to share workload when required
A positive, can-do attitude
Expected Annual Salary $130,000 - $180,000.
