Director of Nursing Essex County Hospital Center is a Joint Commission–accredited, 180-bed intermediate psychiatric hospital for adults located at 204 Grove Avenue in Cedar Grove, New Jersey. It provides general medical and psychiatric services and is licensed by the New Jersey Department of Health.

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated

Director of Nursing . Under the direction of the Hospital Director, this role will plan, coordinate, and administer all operations of the Nursing Department in accordance with the Hospital’s Mission Statement. The Director of Nursing is responsible for ensuring compliance with the Nurse Practice Act and accreditation standards, and for overseeing the delivery of nursing services throughout the facility.

Working collaboratively with hospital administration, the Director will allocate department resources efficiently to support each patient’s highest attainable physical, mental, and psychosocial well‑being. The role also involves collaboration with other departments, medical staff, consultants, regulatory agencies, and advocacy groups to support patient care and related administrative functions.

The ideal candidate is available to work Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Compensation will be discussed during the interview process.

Duties Provide leadership and oversight for all nursing operations, ensuring high-quality, compassionate patient care. Develop, implement, and enforce nursing policies, procedures, and regulatory compliance standards. Supervise and support nursing staff, including performance evaluations, staffing oversight, and scheduling. Oversee patient assessments, care plans, and daily clinical review to ensure safe and effective care delivery. Lead Quality Assurance, infection control, and survey readiness efforts, including follow‑up on corrective actions. Collaborate with physicians, interdisciplinary teams, and external partners to improve patient outcomes. Address patient and family concerns and promote a positive, professional work environment.

Experience 5 years of experience as a registered professional nurse. 3 years of supervisory experience in a role involving the development of and the execution of an extensive nursing service program and/or education. 2 years of experience in behavioral health (preferred).
