Executive Underwriter or AVP, Underwriter Director – Construction Professional Liability
Zurich North America invites experienced professionals to join our Specialties Construction team as an Executive Underwriter or AVP, Underwriter Director – Construction Professional Liability. We consider talent at any Zurich office and may hire remote talent at the hiring manager’s discretion.
Responsibilities
Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations, and rating annual rules.
Develop, maintain, and collaborate with Line of Business representatives on referrals and other business‑related needs.
Provide guidance to lower‑level associates.
Develop and maintain relationships with distributors (agents & brokers) to support business retention and acquisition, working with them to determine insurance‑related needs and offer solutions.
Support the sales culture by being a help point for agents, brokers, and customers.
Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities.
Complete detailed opportunity assessments with key distributors to identify growth opportunities.
Qualify accounts to meet the organization’s appetite, balanced with sound business opportunity.
Make broker/customer and on‑site calls with a planned and well‑prepared purpose.
Qualifications Basic Qualifications – Executive Underwriter Level
High School Diploma or equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the underwriting or market‑facing area, or
High School Diploma or equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the claims or underwriting support area, or
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an associate degree and 3 or more years of experience in the underwriting or market‑facing area, or
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an associate degree and 8 or more years of experience in the claims or underwriting support area and
Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Experience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
Experience working in a team environment.
Basic Qualifications – AVP, Underwriting Director Level
High School Diploma or equivalent and 7 or more years of experience in the underwriting or market‑facing area.
High School Diploma or equivalent and 14 or more years of experience in the claims or underwriting support area, or
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an associate degree and 5 or more years of experience in the underwriting or market‑facing area, or
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an associate degree and 12 or more years of experience in the claims or underwriting support area and
Experience with Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications (Both Levels)
Bachelor’s Degree.
Technical knowledge of Construction Professional Liability underwriting.
Established broker relationships (retail brokers).
Sales execution mindset.
Creative problem‑solving skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Pay & Benefits For the Executive Underwriter role, the salary range is
$98,500.00 – $165,000.00
with a short‑term incentive bonus eligibility of 15%.
For the AVP, Underwriter Director role, the salary range is
$130,000.00 – $215,000.00
with a short‑term incentive bonus eligibility of 20%.
Pay is based on role, location, skills, and experience. You may also be eligible for bonuses and merit increases. If your expectations are above the listed range, we still encourage you to apply.
