School Social Worker Required Certification(s) and/or Degree: MSW / NJ School Social Worker Certificate - Assesses the social and emotional needs of students.
- Provides direct counseling/social services to students referred by self, faculty, administration and other school ancillary staff.
- Tracks and follows up on all referrals made in and out of school.
- Serves as an advocate for students' rights within the school and serves as a mediator between parents, child and school.
- Remains available for crisis intervention social work as the need arises.
- Prioritizes student crisis events.
- Ensures that all students, visitors, guests, as well as coworkers, receive personalized, prompt attention and are treated with receptiveness, dignity and respect, no matter how limited the contact.
- Implements philosophy and objectives of program.
- Participates in the planning and implementation of after-school program and activities.
- Prepare and help students transition from grade to grade
- Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible.
- Prioritizes student crisis events.
- Demonstrates competence in subject field(s) assigned.
- Demonstrates competence in special education and the academic subject field(s) assigned.
- Implement IEPs, assess students' performance and growth, and track progress.
- Provides instruction to classified pupils in accordance with each pupil's individualized education program.
- Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated teaching objectives, and student individual education plan (IEP) objectives.
- Provides activities and experiences to meet the needs, interests and abilities of students.
- Assesses the academic and behavioral status of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports, PLAAFPs, and report card grades as required per scheduled dates and timetables established by the school and in student individual education plans.
- Attends IEP meetings.
- Assists in developing Individualized Education Program (IEPs) and updating IEPs for students.
- Create and adapts lesson plans to address students' learning needs and abilities as identified in IEPs and assessment measures of growth and proficiency.
- Discuss student's progress with parents/guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators.
Reports to: Supervisor of Pupil Personnel Services, Executive Director
Summary
The School Social Worker provides counseling services to students of all grade levels and their families using various social work methods, including individual, group and family counseling. These functions are performed under general supervision, necessitating the ability to exercise independent and sound judgment.
Primary Function: Instructs assigned pupils in accordance with curriculum adopted by The Center School.
