Job Summary The

Pediatric & Congenital Echocardiography Sonographer

performs comprehensive diagnostic cardiac ultrasound examinations on neonates, infants, children, adolescents, and adults with congenital heart disease. This role requires advanced knowledge of congenital cardiac anatomy, strong technical expertise, and the ability to provide compassionate, developmentally appropriate care in a tertiary or quaternary pediatric hospital environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform comprehensive pediatric and congenital transthoracic echocardiograms (TTE), including complex congenital heart disease assessments Perform echocardiographic studies on neonates, infants (including NICU), children, adolescents, and adults with repaired or unrepaired congenital heart disease Assist with and perform stress echocardiography, contrast studies, and agitated saline studies as ordered Acquire and optimize high-quality images, Doppler measurements, and hemodynamic assessments tailored to congenital anatomy Recognize, document, and communicate significant congenital and acquired cardiac findings to pediatric cardiologists promptly Provide age-appropriate patient and family education and emotional support during procedures Collaborate with pediatric cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, nurses, and multidisciplinary congenital care teams Support perioperative, ICU, catheterization lab, and emergency department imaging needs Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record (EMR) and image archiving systems Ensure proper operation, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting of echocardiography equipment Adhere to hospital policies, patient safety standards, infection control protocols, and HIPAA regulations Participate in quality improvement initiatives, research activities, and continuing education Qualifications Required: Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography or Cardiovascular Technology program Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) through ARDMS

Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) through CCI Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Heart Association) Minimum of 2 years of pediatric and/or congenital echocardiography experience in a hospital setting Highly skilled new graduates with dedicated pediatric/congenital training may be considered Strong knowledge of pediatric and congenital cardiac anatomy, physiology, and pathology Preferred: Pediatric Echocardiography specialty (RDCS PE) through ARDMS Experience in a children’s hospital, congenital heart center, or NICU/CVICU Experience with postoperative congenital imaging and complex single-ventricle physiology Familiarity with Epic and pediatric cardiology reporting systems
