Senior Project Engineer

Civil Design Division – San Diego

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE).

  • California Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer.

  • Minimum of 15 years of directly relevant experience, or 18 years of equivalent work in the industry.

  • Local San Diego County and broader California experience preferred.

  • Ability to sustain positive business relationships, obtain new work, and market civil engineering services.

  • Active involvement in community and professional societies/organizations.

Key Competencies:

  • Independent thought and strong decision-making abilities.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • At least 5 years of management experience supervising technical staff.

  • Demonstrated leadership, team-building, and client relationship skills.

  • Ability to manage construction bid documents, contracts, project schedules, and budgets.

  • Experience preparing contracts, fee proposals, and scopes of work for both private land development and public works projects.

Technical Expertise:

  • Conceptual and preliminary design studies (land use, zoning, site constraints, infrastructure, and regulatory issues).

  • Preparation/processing of regulatory and public improvement plans.

  • Constructability reviews and construction support services.

  • Knowledge of jurisdictional codes, standards, and procedures in California, especially the San Diego region.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD/Civil 3D.

Additional Skills

  • Strong leadership and supervisory ability with proven mentoring/training experience.

  • Working knowledge of strategic planning, resource allocation, and project delivery.

  • Skilled negotiator with proven client and agency interaction experience.

  • High level of competence in both written and oral communication.

  • Ability to foster respect and confidence across internal teams and public agencies.
