Job Summary

The communications and social media specialist will be responsible for creating a variety of written, visual and digital communications to help promote the school of nursing, advance its mission and strategic plan, and build community. These will include news and feature stories, e-newsletters, other publications, and web content.

In addition, the specialist will manage the school’s social media accounts, working with the communications director to develop and execute a social media content strategy. The role will involve growing the audience, leveraging platforms to promote the school and the work of its faculty, staff, and students, and closely monitoring social media metrics to measure success and adapt strategy as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Produce written, visual, and digital communications (news, feature stories, e-newsletters, publications, web content) that promote the school of nursing and its mission.
  • Manage the school’s social media accounts and execute a content strategy to grow audience and engagement.
  • Monitor social media metrics, analyze performance, and adjust strategy to achieve goals.
  • Write clear, engaging copy tailored to diverse audiences, maintaining editorial standards and brand voice.
  • Assist with video production and other creative media as needed.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure communications align with objectives and messaging.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or related area and three or more years of directly related experience and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Minimum of three years of experience managing social media platforms and building online communities.
  • Thorough knowledge of fundamentals of writing, grammar, syntax, style, and punctuation.
  • Thorough knowledge of appropriate editorial style and publication guidelines.
  • Ability to write clear, lively, engaging, and compelling copy in a variety of styles appropriate to target audiences or the broader public.
  • Knowledge of computer applications for publishing, image handling, and/or web production.
  • Thorough research and fact verification skills.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, including active listening and effective collaboration.
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Attention to detail, project management, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of the location, including its mission, goals, achievements, infrastructure, programs, and policies.
  • Thorough knowledge of issues in higher education, a specialized academic discipline or field, and/or health sciences.
