North 8 is a 26‑bed unit treating Bone Marrow Transplant and Hematology/Oncology patients. The unit cares for leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, sickle cell disease, solid tumor cancers, immune disorders, and palliative care. Services include blood product support, chemotherapy administration, allograft and autologous stem cell transplant, infusion therapy for clinical trials, BiPAP, CPAP, high‑flow oxygen, telemetry, negative‑pressure dressings, and PCA therapy.

Schedule 36 hrs/week, rotating days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Job Profile Summary This role focuses on providing professional and non‑professional nursing care in accordance with physician orders and performing clinical nurse duties. The RN may direct the work of other lower‑level professionals, manage processes and programs, and oversee the design, implementation, or delivery of policies using specialized knowledge. The majority of time is spent overseeing the design, implementation, or delivery of processes, programs and policies using specialized knowledge and skills.

Job Overview The professional registered nurse delivers and manages patient care from admission through discharge, staying current with healthcare trends, technology, pharmacology, and quality/safety practices. The RN acts as a patient and family advocate, facilitates a collaborative environment, plans and delivers patient/family‑centered care using the nursing process and evidence‑based practice.

Minimum Qualifications

Registered Nurse (RN) license.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Certifications such as ACLS, PALS relevant to the department may be required.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Specialty Nursing certifications.

Duties and Responsibilities

Utilize evidence‑based knowledge in partnering with patients and families to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate age‑appropriate care.

Collaborate with patients, families, and other disciplines to identify expected outcomes and cultural needs.

Plan individualized outcomes‑based care plans, orchestrate and validate a plan of care for each shift, initiate interdisciplinary meetings, and coordinate discharge plans.

Implement the plan safely, document all interventions, and collaborate with colleagues to ensure safe, timely care.

Evaluate effectiveness of interventions, update the plan of care based on patient response.

Perform procedures and treatments per unit guidelines, administer medications, maintain clinical competency with technology, and act as educator and advocate.

Maintain patient safety and quality through participation in hospital and unit‑based safety and performance improvement activities.

Delegate responsibilities appropriately, influence others to achieve service excellence, and support professional development and lifelong learning.

Assume charge nurse functions as needed and facilitate communication among disciplines.

Physical Requirements

Prolonged standing/walking, lifting, pushing, transferring patients and equipment.

Reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching.

Exposure to hazardous chemicals, sick patients, bodily substances, noise, and possible radiation.

Risk of bloodborne diseases and other transmissible infections.

Handle emergency and crisis situations and irregular hours.

Skills & Abilities

Apply knowledge of patient care across the lifespan, aging processes, developmental stages, and cultural patterns.

Provide age‑specific assessment and communication skills to interpret data and respond to care.

Apply unit guidelines, hospital policies, procedures, and protocols to deliver consistent care.

Compensation Base pay ranges: $41.76 – $68.89 per hour. Total rewards include health, financial security, and career growth benefits.
