Process Safety Engineer (Colorado Springs, CO; Lakewood, CO or Houston, TX)
Position can be located in Colorado Springs, Colorado; Lakewood, Colorado; or Houston, Texas.
Position Description As part of the Corporate EHS Audit team, the Process Safety Engineer supports Corporate Audit requirements and initiatives to improve the Corporate Process Safety Management and Risk Management programs. Duties include overseeing, conducting and reviewing compliance audits, reviewing studies and analyses performed by Business Units to support the program, and providing compliance advice to Business Unit personnel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Implement process safety audit programs.
Track and follow up on PSM and RMP audit finding completions.
Assist in the development and implementation of PSM and RMP corporate requirements.
Develop a working knowledge of RAGAGEP and relevant codes and standards.
Troubleshoot and solve PSM and RMP scenarios with focus on mechanical integrity, MOC, PSSR, incident management, and training programs.
Maintain current knowledge of codes and standards for gas processing facilities and petroleum and chemical terminals.
Develop and enhance compliance policies and procedures.
Assist newly assigned personnel on the use of PSM/RMP compliance systems.
Keep compliance system assignments and requirements current.
Proactively plan, organize and oversee assigned work tasks.
Execute daily, weekly, and monthly duties and special projects.
Interact with diverse stakeholders diplomatically.
Articulate and present ideas, proposals, and results to management.
Resolve conflicts and foster a win‑win atmosphere with internal and external customers.
Write effectively and understand verbal and written communications.
Speak clearly in person and by telephone, use strong verbal skills, and listen carefully.
Maintain reliable attendance and high performance.
Demonstrate a high regard for personal safety, company assets and employee safety, and the general public.
Promote the company’s ethical and EHS philosophy and culture.
Travel 25‑35% annually across a broad geographic region to serve KM’s business units.
Carry a cell phone and respond during working hours and as required during non‑working hours.
Work non‑traditional hours as needed.
Position Requirements Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
Active/current Professional Engineer registration; a related degree may substitute for the engineering degree.
Experience / Knowledge
Minimum 3 years of direct, active work experience in an oil/gas industry engineering role.
Knowledge and understanding of process safety principles and application in operating facilities.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting P&IDs, cause‑and‑effect diagrams, and other engineering diagrams.
Experience with API codes (510, 570, 576, 653) is a plus.
Working knowledge of PSM and RMP regulations.
Experience interacting with employees and management at various levels.
Certifications, Licenses & Registrations
Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record (required for travel).
Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card required.
Other certifications may be required.
Competencies, Skills & Abilities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, PHA‑Pro, SpheraCloud, and a computerized maintenance management system.
Ability to perform multiple tasks with strict and simultaneous deadlines.
Team player who works within a group, follows direction, and exhibits excellent follow‑through.
Ability to work autonomously as required.
Customer‑service orientation and strong organizational/time‑management skills.
Bi‑lingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
Working Conditions
Travel across multiple states; 25‑35% annual travel by automobile or commercial aircraft.
Eligible for a hybrid schedule (M‑W in office; Th‑Fri potential work‑from‑home when travel is not required).
Carry a cell phone and respond during working hours and as required during non‑working hours.
The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and complete a background check after an offer has been extended and prior to employment.
Pay range: $94,400 – $136,900 per year. The position includes a discretionary annual incentive plan. Job level and pay are commensurate with experience and skill set.
