SUMMARY SUMMARY:

Goulston & Storrs, an Am Law 200 law firm, has an immediate need for a motivated, analytical and detail‑oriented Estate Administrator, responsible for administering taxable estates, including estates with complex assets. The individual will have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with 2 or more years of estate administration experience, preferably in a law firm or professional services organization, as well as familiarity with estate planning techniques and tax laws relevant to estate administration.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for all aspects of estate administration, including coordinating with trust administrators and tax professionals;

Prepare and file Massachusetts Probate Court documents and related proceedings, including probate accountings;

Assist other estate administrators to prepare and file Federal and Massachusetts estate tax returns, as well as other state estate tax returns as needed;

Collect assets, create asset lists, prepare instruments of distribution and receipts;

Assist other estate administrators to value assets, calculate estate tax estimates, transfer property to beneficiaries, identify and execute on post-mortem income tax planning, and fund formula distributions to marital and exemption trusts;

Process statements, receipts, and distributions for estate and trust accounts;

Communications with clients, beneficiaries, in‑house accountants, outside accountants, and other advisors;

Monthly review of client statements for accuracy and consistency of details;

Be a reliable, responsive, confident resource to attorneys, fiduciaries and family members throughout the estate administration process; and

Assist with other tasks and projects as requested or needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Familiarity with probate and estate administration in Massachusetts, including Federal and Massachusetts estate tax laws;

Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PDF programs, and Outlook;

Excellent project management skills, including well‑organized, diligent at follow‑up, self‑directed follow‑through, and able to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize multiple deadlines and deliverables, and meet tight deadlines;

Thirst for on‑the‑job knowledge and learning, strong interest in developing expertise in estate tax and fiduciary income tax; desire to grow professional skills, and enthusiasm for taking on increasing responsibility over time;

Excellent verbal and written communications skills;

Produce accurate, consistent, detail‑oriented results;

Professional attitude, reliable, responsive and strong work ethic; and

Ability to work independently, while also being flexible and an active contributor to the estate administration team.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree required;

2 or more years of estate and trust administration experience

The salary range for this position is $75,000 to $90,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience.
