Technical Lab Manager – San Jose, California

You Are UST is seeking a Technical Lab Manager to oversee and support day‑to‑day lab operations at our client site in San Jose, California. This role requires hands‑on expertise in lab infrastructure, inventory management, compliance, procurement, and system bring‑up, while also providing leadership to technicians and ensuring smooth delivery of lab activities.
The opportunity
Lead and support lab technicians in platform bring‑up, debugging, and hardware upgrades.
Manage end‑to‑end inventory processes including tracking, auditing, reconciliation, and labeling of lab assets.
Handle procurement requests, coordinate with vendors, and oversee shipping, receiving, and customs clearance for hardware.
Ensure timely lab repairs, preventive maintenance, and compliance with safety and operational standards.
Oversee board additions, upgrades, and recycle/dispose of obsolete systems in line with client policies.
Maintain accurate lab documentation including usage logs, compliance reports, and audit records.
Collaborate closely with cross‑functional engineering teams to provide lab infrastructure and support.
Ensure lab discipline, cleanliness, and ESD compliance at all times.
Act as a point of contact for lab‑related escalations, audits, and client communications.
What you need
7+ years of experience in lab operations, inventory management, or hardware support with leadership exposure.
Strong knowledge of hardware platforms, system bring‑up, and board‑level handling.
Proficiency in inventory management tools and MS Excel/Word/Outlook.
Familiarity with procurement workflows, shipping logistics, and customs documentation.
Strong problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills for lab and hardware issues.
Excellent leadership, organizational, and documentation abilities.
Strong communication skills with proven ability to interact with cross‑functional teams and stakeholders.
Desired Skills
Experience managing compliance and safety requirements in data center or semiconductor labs.
Knowledge of ticketing systems (ServiceNow preferred).
Exposure to Python scripting or automation to streamline lab operations.
Qualification
Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Electrical, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.
7‑10 years of relevant industry experience in lab support/operations with team leadership responsibilities.
Compensation Role Location: California
Compensation Range: $57,000‑$86,000
Benefits Full‑time, regular employees accrue a minimum of 10 days of paid vacation per year, receive 6 days of paid sick leave each year, and are eligible for 10 paid holidays, paid bereavement leave, jury duty, and 401(k) retirement plan with employer matching.
