Job Summary The Tax Director is a key member of the Corporate Tax Department, reporting to the Chief Tax Officer. The role is responsible for all U.S. income tax reporting for the Rousselot business—a global leader in collagen—along with tax reporting for other Darling businesses. Focus areas include federal and state income tax compliance, planning, and reporting, preparing U.S. income tax provisions (ASC 740), accounting for uncertain tax positions, and addressing the impacts of various tax issues.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
Oversee quarterly and annual tax provisions in accordance with ASC 740, including FIN 48 and valuation allowance analyses for the Rousselot business.
Manage the domestic tax compliance function for the Rousselot business.
Oversee the federal and state income tax compliance process to ensure timely and accurate filings.
Prepare and review detailed workpapers for federal and state tax compliance, covering depreciation, intangibles, investments, revenue recognition, fringe benefits, and employee stock compensation.
Collaborate with the broader tax team on mergers & acquisitions, cross‑border transactions, equity transactions, intercompany transactions, and tactical planning ideas.
Assist with domestic tax planning, ensuring cost‑effective solutions are implemented and reported.
Perform technical research and analysis on a variety of tax issues.
Help manage automated tax products (e.g., OneSource, Alteryx) to ensure data integrity.
Develop, improve, and maintain tax compliance and reporting processes.
Handle domestic federal and state audits to resolve tax issues.
Collaborate with accounting and other departments to understand business decisions and transactions.
Coordinate and communicate with external auditors and tax advisors to support well‑documented tax positions.
Monitor, analyze, and document tax regulatory changes and their impact on the company.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with CPA (active license) or JD + LLM (active license) or MST.
15+ years of federal and state income tax experience in corporate taxation, including tax return preparation and ASC 740 accounting.
At least 10 years at a Big 4 public accounting firm or a U.S.‑based publicly traded corporation.
At least 8 years of tax accounting experience (U.S. GAAP and/or IFRS).
Preferred Qualifications
Strong foundation in tax technical, analytical and compliance skills, with experience in process and internal controls.
Experience using tax tools, applications, and financial systems, with the ability to analyze complex tax accounting issues.
Hands‑on experience with tax accounting systems such as OneSource and advanced Excel modeling.
Ability to collaborate across functional areas to resolve complex tax issues.
Judgment and initiative in problem resolution.
Detail‑oriented with excellent analytical skills.
Adaptable to changing business needs.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
