Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our team in El Segundo, CA.

You will be a key member of a systems engineering team defining the next generation of space communication systems supporting the U.S. Space Force (USSF).

Your role includes supporting Systems Engineering & Integration (SE&I) activities in a multidisciplinary, collaborative environment, interfacing with SE&I team members, contractors, government civilians, and USSF personnel.

You will lead and support multiple working groups responsible for technical discussions, risk resolution, requirement gap identification, briefings, documentation, and meeting minutes.

Key Responsibilities

Design, engineer, analyze, and develop software prototypes and/or applications as part of a multi‑disciplinary team.

Engage with stakeholders to define problem space and vision, determine capabilities and priorities.

Participate in the complete software development lifecycle: user story creation, design, development, automated testing, and operational support.

Create intuitive user interfaces enabling efficient data management and system oversight.

Design and develop new visualization features to meet evolving end‑user requirements.

Work with complex algorithms to deliver optimized solutions for the end user.

Determine software maintainability and overall adherence to user requirements with departmental standards.

Drive continuous improvement through process and tooling recommendations.

Mentor team members by sharing innovative ideas and industry best practices.

Required Qualifications

Security Clearance:

Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.

Education:

BS degree in Computer Science or Information Systems; other degrees considered with relevant work experience.

7 years of software development, including architecture, object‑oriented design, coding, and testing.

Strong experience in one or more: Python, Java, or Go.

Proficiency in JavaScript and Node.js.

Hands‑on experience developing web applications with microservices architecture.

Hands‑on experience with database technologies such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, and others.

Experience with Docker, AWS and/or Azure, and Kubernetes for containerization, cloud services, and orchestration.

Proficient in using GitLab or other tools for version control, CI/CD pipelines, and collaboration.

Excellent problem‑solving skills.

Strong passion for research, tackling complex problems, and continuously learning and adopting new technologies.

Organization capability with ability to handle competing priorities.

Strong interpersonal skills, communication (oral and written), and presentation skills.

Desired Qualifications

10+ years of software development, including architecture, object‑oriented design, coding, and testing.

Experience working with JavaScript frameworks such as Angular.

Knowledge and experience in Jira and Confluence.

Experience implementing Agile Software Development methodologies for efficient and iterative project management.

Experience with MILSATCOM, such as AEHF, EPS, WGS, and Tactical SATCOM or COMSATCOM.

Experience with space and ground systems, such as satellite communication, ground terminals, and DoD networks.

Compensation The pay range for this position in California is $122,000/year to $153,000/year. Base pay may vary based on contract ranges, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience.
