NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn is a full-service teaching hospital and Level I trauma center located in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Position Summary We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Assistant Director, Operations and Analytics. The Assistant Director of Operations and Analytics will lead project design, analysis, and implementation to advance the goals of NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Hospital Operations and Analytics, they will customize project approach, opportunity identification, and solutions implementation to fit the operational and strategic issues at hand. This role is pivotal in keeping our operations agile at every level of the organization and provides an opportunity to work in a dynamic and fast-changing environment. The Assistant Director will also be responsible for day-to-day operations of Equipment Logistics. Responsibilities include:

Implement process improvements and standardization

Improve patient care delivery

Align fixed and variable cost to demand/revenue

Generate net new revenue (as appropriate)

Manage strategic areas in support of VPs of Operations

Contribute to the development, implementation and success of hospital-wide operational projects and initiatives

Manage local data reporting of both internal and external metrics

Operations and Analytics

Oversee and facilitate process improvement across hospital-wide value streams through the application of process improvement, quality tools, and methodologies from project identification, to completion and through sustainability

Appropriately plan and scope projects, using quantitative and qualitative analysis skills

Perform quantitative analyses, including staffing modelling and budgetary analysis, demonstrating the ability to extract, validate, and critically think through data analysis for operational, financial, or market implications

Performs qualitative analyses including key stakeholder interviews, observations, and gathering of relevant regulatory impacts

Develops applicable process and outcome metrics to measure project success

Employs independent judgment and industry experience in evaluating options and approaches to analyses, project management, process improvement and/or implementation

Synthesizes complex information in high-quality deliverables for recommendations to key stakeholders and presentation to senior leadership

Facilitate project team meetings to drive key decisions and completion of tactical next steps to ensure project execution, maintains project plan to reflect current progress

Standardize, review, and update budgets for key areas in partnership with the operations VP

Escalate operational risks as identified to hospital leadership

Identify and resolve inefficiencies within operations portfolio

Anticipate project needs and able to balance competing priorities across multiple workflows

Serve as a trusted resource and an agent of diplomacy for portfolio department leadership, bringing issues to resolution and escalates concerns to the project sponsor and key stakeholders

Relates to all levels of the organization and uses formal and informal networks to accelerate change and maximize impact

Effectively communicate concepts and methodologies for purposes of understanding and replication for future projects

Train and develop organizational leadership and staff in process improvement methodologies to improve quality, increase profitability, build capacity and improve patient experience

Supervise and train Analysts and Project Managers on tasks necessary for successful project support, including analysis, and presentation and communication skills

Collaborate with hospital leadership, as well as human resources, finance, MCIT, project management and analytics, quality and safety, and patient experience on projects related to operations throughout the health system.

Design and execute interdisciplinary projects to achieve institutional goals

Work with clinical and operational leaders to identify and implement strategies to improve patient throughput with measurable outcomes

Develop slide decks to be used in critical meetings either within the institution or with outside groups that encompass key elements of success related to quality, efficiency, financial performance, expanded clinical program, research access, etc.

Develop dashboards to inform decision-making related to operational, clinical, patient experience, and financial processes

Serve as local expert in available data resources for and train in appropriate use

Equipment Logistics

Provide operational oversight and serve as the liaison between leadership and clinical engineering management, providing project oversight, resource coordination, and day-to-day operational support to ensure alignment with strategic goals and seamless departmental execution

Establish goals, objectives, standard operating procedures, and guidelines to meet the needs of the hospital relative to equipment inventory and logistics and facilitate ongoing interdisciplinary communication and teamwork to attain goals and objectives.

Interact with all constituents to continually assess and evaluate equipment needs and to determine and implement strategy, plans and opportunities for improvement.

Ensure standardized and efficient equipment flow through the hospital including assessing and ensuring appropriate inventory, equity and transparency between units and services, regular assessment of regulatory compliance, and movement of equipment between units, services, and clinical engineering.

Review, revise, and/or develop departmental policies and procedures, communicate policy or procedural changes to staff and other health system personnel as required, and ensure compliance with established policies, procedures and standards.

Establish process and outcome measures for equipment logistics, including targets, and monitors performance and identifies and implements corrective actions when indicated.

Member of the system Medical Equipment Recall Committee, Bed Committee, and Medical Equipment Replacement Planning Committee

Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Masters degree in healthcare, business administration, or a related field

6+ years of progressive experience in an operational or strategic planning role

Exceptional detail orientation and organization skills

Written and oral communication skills applicable to a wide variety of audiences

Experience with process improvement methodologies such as Lean and Six Sigma

Knowledge of project and change management tools, methods, and best practices

Experience with collecting, analyzing, and modeling data with ability to articulate findings

Experience with managing analysts and project managers

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications

Facile in Tableau, Visio, Access, and Decision Support reporting programs

Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills

Ability to approach new problems and develop a systematic, comprehensive solution

Works well with others but also able to work independently as needed

Ability to manage change and ambiguity in a fast-paced environment

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $145,000-$160,000 annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
