Job Overview
The Illinois Department of Corrections is seeking a highly skilled Senior Public Service Administrator to serve as Deputy Director of Operations – Region 2. This leadership role oversees Wardens, manages institutional operations, and ensures the safety, security, and integrity of correctional facilities while shaping policy, coordinating emergency responses, and driving operational excellence across Region 2. Essential Functions
Manages, supervises, and evaluates the performance of Wardens. Participates in the overall planning, development, and organization of Region 2. Conducts annual reviews of pertinent Administrative Directives. Continually reviews and analyzes Region 2 problems related to prison overcrowding, population size, and classification of institutional population. Represents the Director, Assistant Director, and Chief of Operations before courts, public and private organizations, and community groups. Serves as full-line supervisor. Performs other duties as reasonably within the scope of the enumerated duties. Minimum Qualifications
Four (4) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a law enforcement, public or private organization, or correctional facility. Four (4) years of relevant college coursework in law enforcement, criminology, penology, or a related field. Conditions of Employment
Ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate. Appropriate, valid driver’s license. Possession of a Firearm Ownership Identification Card. Ability to qualify with firearms within twelve months of start date and annually thereafter. On‑call availability. Use of agency‑supplied technology. Pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check. Pass a drug screen; unauthorized drug usage is prohibited. File a Statement of Economic Interest as required by the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act. Adhere to revolving‑door restrictions contained in 5 ILCS 430/5‑45. Utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes for digital transformation efforts within the department. Abide by all vaccine and other medical standards set by the employer. Work Hours
