Reports to the Senior Director, HSSE Environmental. The Senior HSSE Environmental Associate will maintain compliance with applicable environmental laws, regulations, and requirements, and support the development of the Company’s environmental initiatives across the full lifecycle of RWECE from development through decommissioning.
Responsibilities
Support the development and implementation of RWECE’s Environmental Management System in accordance with industry standards (e.g., ISO 14001) and best practices
Create program documents, train employees and managers, and respond to questions regarding implementation of developed programs
Provide technical expertise in environmental impact statements, environmental assessments (including NEPA, state-level regulations), native plants and habitats, and biological assessments and evaluations
Provide technical expertise in threatened and/or endangered species issues and permits; water and stormwater management for construction and operations; chemical management, spill prevention and control; and waste management
Respond to queries from internal and external stakeholders
Provide support to the East region: NY, PA, WV, VA, NC, TN, SC, AL, MS, FL, and New England states
Interface with various departments and organizations on environmental matters to provide oversight and guidance
Attend meetings and provide written and oral responses on environmental matters on behalf of the department
Participate in and facilitate required meetings with state and federal resource agencies and execute compliance tasks
Report on industry focus groups involving environmental/wildlife issues
Attend in-person and virtual meetings and multi‑day events as required, providing feedback to the organization
Serve as a conduit for feeding information back to RWECE
Job Requirements and Experiences
Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology, Civil/Environmental Engineering, or related field
Minimum 5 years of experience developing and implementing environmental programs, including permitting, within the energy industry, preferred in renewable energy
Experience in construction and/or operations, including field work
Experience engaging with wildlife compliance matters (USFWS and state agencies)
Experience with EPCRA, SPCC, RCRA, CAA, and other regulatory programs
Experience working in NY, PA, WV, VA, NC, TN, SC, AL, MS, FL, and New England states
Ability to build relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders
Strong interpersonal skills and customer‑relationship management
Desire to learn about the Company and renewables space
Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office and Teams
Strong leadership, communication, and deadline‑meeting skills
Strong organization skills and ability to coordinate multiple tasks and deliverables
Multitasking capability, working independently and as part of a team
Motivated self‑starter, goal‑oriented, and strong problem‑solving abilities
Ability to empathize, build relationships, and communicate effectively with diverse backgrounds
Responsive to direction, coachable, and easy to challenge and develop
Detail‑oriented, strong business acumen, and sound understanding of business concepts
Work Environment Office‑based role with some travel and visits to RWECE offices and field locations. Requires sitting, walking, or standing for long periods.
Pay Range The annual base salary range for this position in Chicago and New York is $100,000–$120,000. The listed range is a general guideline; RWE considers scope, responsibilities, education & experience, training & certifications, market and business factors when making an offer.
