What to Expect Tesla's fleet of home batteries, charging equipment, and solar products is growing rapidly. These products are enabling hundreds of thousands of customers across the world to transition to sustainable energy, have resiliency to electrical grid disruptions, and save money. With our massive, distributed network of renewable energy systems, we use data collected from our Internet-connected energy systems to generate insights and find problems before the customer does. The Tesla Energy Products team is looking to hire a Residential Product Engineer to effectively utilize fleet data and engineering fundamentals to monitor product performance, root cause design, process, or firmware failures in our fleet of renewable energy hardware. They will work with a cross‑functional team of engineers to define and track product KPIs, troubleshoot and diagnose device issues, deploy necessary corrective actions ranging from firmware changes, manufacturing process or installation process changes, etc. to prevent issues from re‑occurring. This engineer will support the launch and ramp of next generation AC charging product and features that enable vehicle‑to‑home/grid power transfer.

What You’ll Do

Define data signatures that uniquely identify issues, lead integration of this knowledge into algorithms to quantify field impact and automatically identify future events

Develop and run data queries on fleet logs to identify fleet trends and initiate workstreams to drive product improvements

Work with the engineering and manufacturing teams to drive design and manufacturing changes to improve product quality in both existing and future products

Provide support on escalated issues to minimize system downtime, identify trending issues in the product, and translate learnings into technical documentation, automated diagnosis, or other product improvements

Work travel is expected to be What You’ll Bring

Experience performing data analysis on technical problems

Strong engineering fundamentals and intuition, applied to firmware/software-enabled systems

An excellent attention to detail and an ability to produce clear and concise written instructions

Experience with Python and/or SQL

Education and/or hands‑on experience with power electronics, power converters, digital control systems, embedded systems, and/or energy metering hardware

Experience with renewable energy systems

Expected Compensation $100,160 - $225,840/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
