At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We are building reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Moon landers and related products. We are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. We are looking for a cryogenic propellant management device responsible engineer. You will own the complete life cycle of the system from concept to operation, define requirements, perform analyses, coordinate with suppliers or internal teams, size and select materials, manage project plans (cost and schedule), and mentor early career engineers. Strong leadership and dedication to quality for safe human spaceflight are required. You will work directly with NASA and our National Team Partners as part of the Human Landing System Sustaining Lunar Development program, contributing to cryogenic systems for returning humans to the Moon and extending human presence beyond Earth.
Responsibilities
Design propellant management devices for human-rated flight Perform fluid and structural analyses to support designs Coordinate design-for-manufacturability activities for advanced fluid hardware Collaborate with cross-functional teams to execute on designs
Minimum Qualifications
B.S. in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related field 8+ years designing cryogenic fluid components, preferably in space industry Experience leading major technical trades such as space vehicle architecture design, P&ID creation, and major vehicle trade studies Significant experience in design and analysis of complex micro-gravity hardware (e.g., PMD or LAD) Experience using Surface Evolver for geometry creation and analysis Design and verification of cryogenics hardware through test, including test planning and data evaluation Ability to create multiphase cryogenics tools in MATLAB or Python Strong mentoring, hands-on capability, and coaching skills
Preferred Qualifications
Expertise in SINDA/FLUINT or Thermal Desktop Technical lead experience Experience with propulsion budget development for space vehicle timelines Modeling propulsion/cryogenic fluids management (storage, transfer, phase change, etc.) Knowledge of MATLAB, Simulink, Amesim 10 to 40+ years of relevant proven experience Active/passive Thermal/Pressure Control System design Advanced Engineering degree Experience with static and non-linear FEA (ANSYS) Knowledge of ASME Y14.5 geometric dimensioning and tolerance
Compensation
Compensation ranges vary by location: CA applicants $140,959.00-$197,342.25; CO applicants $129,611.00-$181,454.70; WA applicants $140,959.00-$197,342.25. Other site ranges may differ.
