Job Description Summary
Ajax Building Company, part of the STO Building Group, is looking to hire a Director of Business Development. The Director of Business Development is a strategic leader responsible for driving Ajax’s growth across core and emerging sectors—including Commercial, Higher Education, K-12, Government, Public Safety, Healthcare, Tenant Improvement (TI), Mission Critical, and Corporate Office/Mixed Use. This role champions Ajax’s values of family, quality, safety, and collaboration, and leverages the company’s employee‑owned culture and partnership with STO Building Group to build lasting client relationships and deliver innovative solutions.
Reporting Relationships Reports directly to the President and is accountable for all business development and marketing activities, outcomes, and alignment with Ajax’s vision and values.
Requirements
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in business or a related construction field required; Master’s Degree in Business Administration or Construction preferred.
Experience:
Proven experience in construction, business development, or marketing; experience with a construction company or in construction design preferred.
Skills:
Outstanding computer and communication skills; deep knowledge of the construction industry; ability to perform under pressure and lead with integrity.
Essential Functions
Develop and execute business development strategies and budgets that support Ajax’s growth in priority and emerging sectors.
Formulate departmental objectives aligned with Ajax’s overall business development goals and values.
Lead and mentor staff in the design, development, and production of client‑facing materials, proposals, and presentations.
Build and nurture relationships with prospective and current clients, providing planning advice and guidance that reflects Ajax’s commitment to safety, quality, and collaboration.
Support the finalization of business deals, working closely with management and estimating teams.
Promote Ajax’s reputation for schedule fidelity, GMP accuracy, safety, and operational readiness.
Duties and Responsibilities
Research, identify, and pursue business opportunities in Ajax’s geographic footprint (17 offices across the Southeast U.S.).
Supervise business development representatives and consultants in their pursuit of new opportunities.
Develop objectives and strategies that support Ajax’s broader business development goals, including growth in Healthcare, Mission Critical, TI, and Corporate Office/Mixed Use.
Conduct and manage research and outreach to identify and prioritize potential customers.
Prepare and implement action plans for targeted prospects, ensuring alignment with Ajax’s values and delivery discipline.
Oversee the creation of proposals, presentations, brochures, newsletters, and magazines.
Train new personnel within the department, fostering a culture of safety, respect, and teamwork.
Address client needs prior to contract execution, providing advice, liaison services, and planning support.
Assist management and estimating teams with the sales process and deal finalization.
Carry out additional assignments as requested by the Executive staff.
