Compound Management Application & Data Support Lab Head We’re in relentless pursuit of breakthroughs that change patients’ lives. As a key member of our Analytical Technologies and Compound Management (ATCM) team, you will lead the application portfolio and a technical team that supports the entire software development lifecycle for the Groton sample management laboratories.

What You Will Achieve

Provide strategic oversight and manage the development, acquisition, implementation, operation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and support of software solutions within the Groton laboratories, ensuring high‑quality access to the Pfizer compound collection for drug discovery teams.

Lead, mentor, and develop a group of Data & Computer Scientists who design and support lab‑based software and collaborate with Digital teams on enterprise‑level solutions.

Co‑manage Digital project and Compound Management operational budgets, prepare funding requests, Request for Proposals, Statements of Work, and Master Service Agreements, and negotiate sustained software costs with vendors and procurement teams.

Drive the strategic direction for the portfolio of applications in collaboration with lab heads, automation specialists, and scientific stakeholders.

Lead cross‑functional teams to implement enhancements to the software and hardware portfolio within ATCM.

Leverage technical expertise to design innovative solutions and algorithms that address complex software, automation, and workflow needs.

Align with Digital development and security requirements on infrastructure, technologies, engineering best practices, lifecycle management, and quality assurance.

Contribute to the strategy of ATCM and Structure, Analytical, & Molecular Sciences (SAMS) groups as a member of the ATCM & SAMS Leadership Teams.

Here Is What You Need (Minimum Requirements)

13+ years industry experience with a bachelor’s degree, 11+ years with a Master’s, or 8+ years with a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Information Science, or related field.

Demonstrated breadth of leadership experiences, including influencing peers, senior leadership, stakeholders, and external partners, and developing, mentoring, and coaching others.

5+ years software engineering project management experience.

Track record of leading cross‑functional, multidisciplinary matrix teams to successful project delivery.

Expert knowledge of the software engineering discipline and adherence to a software development lifecycle for high‑quality solutions.

Practical experience in designing, developing, and deploying software solutions using Agile methodologies.

Experience performing business analysis and workflow/process design & development.

Expertise in troubleshooting complex software issues and identifying root causes.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to contribute technical expertise to research initiatives and project teams.

Expertise in developing technical strategies to support mid‑ and long‑term departmental goals.

Demonstrated ability to manage resources and expenses against an allocated budget.

Bonus Points If You Have (Preferred Requirements)

Expert knowledge of sample management workflows, laboratory automation software, systems & robotics, including LIMS, automated storage systems, and acoustic & tip‑based liquid handlers.

Proficiency in Java, C#, C++, VB, JavaScript, Python, Perl, Pipeline Pilot, SharePoint Forms/Power Apps, HTML/XML/JSON, Excel VBA, REST/Soap/Microservices APIs, Oracle/PostgreSQL/RDS/Azure, SQL/PLSQL, Toad/DBeaver, Jira, Confluence, Eclipse, GitHub/SVN, Draw.io/LucidChart/Visio.

Physical / Mental Requirements

Position requires working in the lab, operating automated equipment, lifting, sitting, standing, walking, bending, and the ability to solve complex technical problems.

Non‑Standard Work Schedule, Travel or Environment Requirements

May be required to travel to other Pfizer sites to meet project team members.

Must comply with laboratory safety practices and wear personal protective equipment as required.

Relocation support may be available based on business needs and eligibility. Work location is on premise. The annual base salary for this position ranges from $120,800.00 to $201,400.00, with eligibility for a 17.5% performance bonus and a share‑based long‑term incentive program.
