As an Application & Data Support Senior Principal Scientist and Lab Head you will provide oversight to the application portfolio within Compound Management and lead a technical team that contributes to all aspects of the software development lifecycle.
What You Will Achieve
Provide oversight and strategic management of the development, acquisition, implementation, operation, troubleshooting, maintenance and support of software solutions within the Groton sample management laboratories.
Lead, mentor, and develop a group of Data & Computer Scientists that develop & support lab‑based software solutions.
Co‑manage Digital project and Compound Management operational budgets, including purchase orders, invoices and project spend.
Collaborate with stakeholders to drive the strategic direction for the portfolio of applications.
Lead cross‑functional teams to implement enhancements to the software & hardware portfolio.
Leverage technical subject‑matter expertise to design and develop innovative solutions and algorithms.
Align with Digital development & security requirements on infrastructure, technologies, software engineering best practices, development lifecycles, configuration management and software quality assurance.
Contribute to the strategy of ATCM and Structure, Analytical, & Molecular Sciences (SAMS) groups as a member of the ATCM & SAMS Leadership Teams.
Here Is What You Need (Minimum Requirements)
13+ years of industry experience with a bachelor’s degree, 11+ years with a master’s degree or 8+ years with a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Information Science or related field.
Broad leadership experience influencing, collaborating with peers, senior leadership and external partners, and mentoring others.
5+ years of software engineering project management experience.
Track record of leading cross‑functional/multi‑disciplinary matrix teams to delivery of project objectives.
Expert knowledge of software engineering discipline and software development lifecycle.
Experience with Agile methodologies and solving complex problems with software solutions.
Business analysis and workflow/process design & development experience.
Expertise in troubleshooting highly technical software issues and identifying root causes.
Excellent communication skills and ability to provide technical expertise to research initiatives.
Expertise in identifying and developing technical strategies for mid‑and long‑term goals for the department.
Ability to manage resources/expenses against an allocated budget.
Bonus Points If You Have (Preferred Requirements)
Expert knowledge of sample management workflows, laboratory automation software, systems & robotics, including LIMS and automated storage systems.
Experience with Java/C#/C++/VB, JavaScript/Python/Perl, Pipeline Pilot, SharePoint Forms/Power Apps, HTML/XML/JSON, Excel Macros/Visual Basic, REST/Soap/Microservices APIs, Oracle/PostgreSQL/Azure, SQL/PLSQL, Jira, Confluence, Eclipse, GitHub/SVN, and diagram tools.
Physical/Mental Requirements
Working in the lab, operating automated equipment, lifting, sitting, standing, walking, bending, and solving complex technical problems.
Travel & Work Schedule
May be asked to travel to other Pfizer sites.
Must comply with laboratory safety practices and wear personal protection as required.
Relocation & Compensation Relocation support may be available. Annual base salary ranges from $120,800.00 to $201,400.00, with eligibility for Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan and a 17.5% bonus target, as well as long‑term incentive programs.
