Principal Electrical Engineer - ASIC/FPGA (Onsite)
Join Collins Aerospace as a Principal Electrical Engineer to design, implement, verify, and integrate high‑performance digital ASICs and FPGAs for signal processing and information assurance products across Mission Systems. The role is on‑site at our El Segundo, CA facility.
What You Will Do
Capture requirements and design ASIC/FPGA digital architecture using RTL, achieve timing closure, and perform verification and system integration.
Recommend new tools and practices to improve the group’s ASIC/FPGA design flow.
Contribute engineering estimates for new program pursuits.
Provide technical leadership for project design teams, breaking down work, planning activities, and reporting status.
Qualifications You Must Have
STEM degree and a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with at least 5 years of experience.
RTL coding and simulation in VHDL or Verilog.
Digital circuit architecture, design, resource trade‑offs, timing analysis, and timing closure.
Testbench development for RTL verification using VHDL or SystemVerilog.
Proficiency with ASIC/FPGA simulation and synthesis tools (Modelsim, Synplify, Quartus, Vivado, or equivalent).
Familiarity with revision‑control concepts and tools (Git, Subversion).
Active and transferable U.S. government‑issued secret security clearance required prior to start date.
Qualifications We Prefer
Experience with best‑practice chip‑level verification techniques (constrained random, functional coverage, SystemVerilog).
ASIC/FPGA lab validation with advanced lab equipment.
Ability to work independently, lead a diverse engineering team, and manage aggressive schedules and milestones.
Strong oral and written communication skills for documentation and presentations.
Design for Test (DFT) and manufacturability expertise.
Experience with Unix, scripting, C/C++, or Perl.

The salary range for this role is 101,000 USD – 203,000 USD. The range reflects all experience levels and is a good‑faith estimate.
