Director of Engineering Our client is a privately held engineering and services firm specializing in the delivery and support of complex mechanical systems for industrial and commercial facilities. The organization provides project engineering, construction support, and ongoing system optimization for clients operating in regulated and safety‑critical environments such as food and beverage manufacturing, cold‑chain logistics, life‑sciences, and industrial processing environments. With a strong engineering culture and a collaborative project execution model, the company partners with customers to design, build, and maintain systems that support continuous operations, regulatory compliance, and long‑term asset performance.

Key Responsibilities

Provide on‑site engineering support of installation for industrial ammonia/central refrigeration and commercial split systems.

Review/approve submittal drawings for vendor purchased equipment for compliance with design intent and/or contract documents.

Review engineering drawings and designs to ensure adherence to established specifications, scope of work and standards specified by each project/client.

Assist in producing 2D and 3D CAD/BIM drawings and document sets from sketches, existing drawings, equipment shop drawings and standard details for refrigeration, piping and controls systems to be estimated, installed and/or fabricated.

Play a key role in bid and proposal development working in conjunction with the Sales team.

Perform layout and dimensioning of equipment locations, pipe and ductwork routing, and support systems to eliminate interferences with other components, existing systems or other building elements, accommodate servicing requirements, and maximize system installation efficiency.

Assist in producing accurate ‘As‑Built' drawings from field mark‑ups upon completion of a construction project. Check and approve of drawings created by other Engineering personnel.

Perform system calculations which include but are not limited to: System load calculations, Ammonia relief vent systems and valves, ammonia charge, etc.

Perform heat transfer and thermodynamic analysis associated with sizing and selection of refrigeration equipment, pipe sizing and control valves.

Develop P&ID's, flow diagrams, equipment schedules, plans and specifications for refrigeration systems.

Write and continuously improve specifications and standards pertaining to refrigeration including piping, vessels, compressors, evaporators, condensers, valves, instrumentation, corrosion protection, and insulation.

Work closely with company resources to assure projects are meeting technical and quality requirements.

Mentor, develop, and train junior engineers.

Qualifications + Experience

BS Degree in a Mechanical Engineering discipline.

Minimum required work history in industrial refrigeration design, such as AHU's, and construction. Experience with (or desire to be trained on) Industrial Refrigeration (Ammonia, DX refrigeration, and trans‑critical CO₂ systems) preferred.

Preferred experience of 7–10 years in designing & engineering industrial refrigeration systems (Ammonia system experience highly desired).

Current P.E. certification in one or more states preferred.

Proficiency in drafting/design programs, e.g. CAD.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint, etc).

Ability to create, read, analyze and interpret construction drawings and P&ID's.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Skill in writing reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.

Experience in all aspects of project requirements including mechanical, electrical, and structural, including application of current building/installation codes.

In‑depth knowledge of construction equipment and techniques, drawings, and specifications.

In‑depth knowledge of building materials, engineering standards and codes.

Ability to work closely with others on a team as well as independently.

Capability of maintaining a high energy level to handle a dynamic, fast‑paced workload.

Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills in evaluating situations.

Ability to manage multiple and shifting priorities, projects and deadlines.

Self‑motivation and willingness to learn and embrace new ideas and technologies.

Ability to access job sites, including some climbing and crawling.

Preferred Qualifications

Current Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.

Working knowledge of IIAR standards and refrigeration industry codes.

Experience in F&B processing, pharmaceutical facilities, or similar commercial/industrial environments.

Familiarity with CAD tools (AutoCAD 2D/3D) and ability to collaborate with internal drafting team.

Background working in cross‑functional project teams across disciplines (mechanical, electrical, structural).

Willingness to relocate to North Texas.
