Position Title
Associate Staff - Data Scientist
Overview The Bioanalytics Systems & Technologies Group focuses on driving analytic and AI/ML solutions that leverage vast and rapidly expanding biological datasets to address national security needs. The Group’s efforts include developing software architectures, bioinformatics tools, and AI algorithms to support biomedical, health, chemical and biological defense, biosecurity, public and global health, and warfighter performance.
Responsibilities The role involves leading the development of AI/ML models, data curation, planning and conducting field data collections, leading small programs, collaborating with other scientists and engineers, and communicating results both in written and oral form.
Job Requirements
Master’s in Data Science, Computational Biology, Biomedical Informatics, AI, or related scientific field; or equivalent experience.
In lieu of a Master’s, a bachelor’s degree with 3–5 years of directly related experience will be considered.
Experience with AI development, including applying large language models (LLMs) for retrieval‑augmented generation (RAG) for biomedical problems.
Experience in developing data pipelines from harmonizing, curating and aggregating data; familiarity with molecular, physiological and/or clinical data is a plus.
Ability to work collaboratively and lead highly interdisciplinary teams.
Demonstrated skills in scientific writing and clear presentation of technical materials to a wide spectrum of audiences.
Experience with bioinformatic processing and analysis of sequence (genomics/transcriptomic), proteomics, and chemical data using open‑source and custom tools.
This role is onsite only.
Salary Range Recent Graduate Hiring Range: $116,400 – $140,000
Experienced Hiring Range: $116,400 – $182,200
