Job Overview RWJBH is seeking an Assistant Director Patient Care for our Admission Transition Unit at the New Brunswick campus. The Admission Unit is an inpatient unit primarily for patients who require a higher level of care and closer monitoring, referred to as intermediate care, IMC. Nurses in AU are highly valued, as they are able to provide extraordinary care to patients across all populations, including telemetry/cardiology, respiratory, neurology, trauma, orthopedics, and oncology. These patients are admitted directly from the ER or other hospitals and remain under the care of the AU team until deemed appropriate to transition to one of the floors. The AU team demonstrates expertise, flexibility, resilience, effective communication and interpersonal skills, and teamwork.
Qualifications
Required: BSN
Required: At least 3 -5 years hospital nursing experience
Required: Experience in Emergency Room, Admissions, or Triage
Preferred: Previous Nursing Leadership experience preferred
Preferred: National certification for clinical specialty
Certifications and Licenses Required
BLS and ACLS Certification
Active New Jersey Registered Nurse License
Scheduling Requirements
Night Shift, 40 hours per week
Monday - Friday, some weekend commitment and holiday rotation

Essential Functions
Facilitates the safe and effective functioning of the unit as demonstrated by
Interviewing and hiring unlicensed personnel
Interviewing and hiring licensed personnel in collaboration with Nursing Director
Facilitates the orientation process for new employees as demonstrated by
Making assignments that maintain preceptor-orientee relationship.
Working the preceptor-orientee to solve any problems
Ensuring that orientees complete the unit-based orientation within an appropriate individualized time frame
Contributes to the professional growth and development of staff by
Continuously assessing patient care to evaluate staff knowledge and patterns of performance
Counseling staff on identified areas for improvement
Evaluating the staff performance as demonstrated by the completion of the performance evaluation in a timely manner
Counseling and implementing appropriate disciplinary action
Planning/coordinating unit based education programs as identified by unit needs
Considers staff participation in safety/quality initiatives when completing employee performance appraisals
