Principal Electrical Engineer
to join our industry‑leading
Heavy Movable Structures
practice. The role focuses on electrical control and power systems for heavy movable structures such as movable bridges, locks, dams, lift gates, and other kinetic structures.

Our electrical engineering team is physically based in Doylestown, PA and New York City, NY. Flexibility is available for candidates to be based in other WJE locations.
Responsibilities
Technical project execution : Design, diagnostics, and troubleshooting of HMS‑specific power and control systems from initiation through closeout. Includes modern control and power expertise, hands‑on fieldwork, and managing client expectations.
Day‑to‑day project leadership : Serve as primary point of contact for clients, contractors, and project teams; review others’ work; and seal documents as Electrical Engineer of Record.
Mentorship : Exhibit WJE culture of shared knowledge and support team development, both locally and company‑wide.
Practice contributions : Build client relationships, attract and develop consultants, share knowledge internally, and engage in professional organizations, conferences, and technical committees.
Qualifications
Licensed Electrical Engineer
or ability to obtain within the first year.
Bachelor’s degree or higher
in electrical, power, controls, or systems engineering.
Minimum 15 years
of relevant HMS industry experience with expertise in control or power systems, new system design, in‑situ evaluation, and forensic investigation.
Dedicated self‑starter
with principles‑first problem‑solving mindset and commitment to technical excellence.
Excellent technical, graphical, written, and verbal communication skills .
Physical Requirements
Ability to travel and attend meetings; average ~30 % field travel.
Safely use ladders, scaffolds, lifts, and other equipment at control rooms.
Lift and carry materials and tools, work at heights and in confined spaces, and operate in temperature extremes.
Medically fit to use respiratory protection and personal protective equipment.
Drive and operate a motor vehicle safely; authorized to work and travel across the United States without restrictions.
Benefits WJE offers a robust, total compensation structure composed of base salary, incentive pay, and industry‑leading benefits. Your annual base salary will be in the range $128,550 to $214,250, with variable compensation tied to personal and company performance.

401(k) matching of 110 % of the first 6 % of eligible pay, vesting immediately.
