Performs a variety of patient testing and administrative tasks in support of the clinical activities in the UNCHCS. This role works exclusively in the blood bank, performing tasks including issuing blood products, component modifications such as syringe aliquots/irradiation/washing products/deglycerolization of products, compatibility testing, antibody identification, and elutions. Hours
10‑hour shifts each Thursday – Sunday, 9:30 pm – 7:30 am with rotating holidays. Responsibilities
Investigates problems with equipment, test results, specimens, and/or workflow. May participate on teams or perform special projects/assignments. May perform teaching of Clinical Laboratory Science students and Pathology residents and training of new employees; may serve as a technical resource. Performs quality control and equipment maintenance in the appropriate laboratory. Performs routine and less standardized test procedures including special chemical, microscopic and bacteriologic laboratory tests; observes tests and reactions and provides data. Prepares specimens and reagents, solutions, heat, or filters as required. Reports results to healthcare providers and consults/confers with providers regarding test results. Reviews test results to ensure accuracy and timely correction of errors. Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s of Science degree required. Licensure/Certification: Must obtain certification within one year of becoming exam eligible. Professional Experience: No prior experience required. Job Details
