Join the Louisiana Department of Health, Office of Public Health, as an RN Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner serving the Region 3 Parish Health Units. The Nurse Practitioner works collaboratively with a dedicated healthcare team, promotes a positive public health image, and delivers care in accordance with a collaborative practice agreement. Possession of a current Louisiana Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or a temporary permit.

NOTE: The temporary APRN permit allows an APRN applicant to work in a limited capacity for up to 120 days while awaiting review for full APRN licensure by the nursing board. An APRN applicant cannot medically diagnose or medically manage patients until they are licensed and have prescriptive authority. If the APRN license is not received within the 120-day period and the permit expires, the employee must be removed from the position.

Job Duties

Conducts comprehensive health assessments and physical examinations, including PAP smears, breast and pelvic exams, and evaluates diagnostic data to diagnose conditions, prescribe treatment, provide counseling, and develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care for Maternity, Family Planning, and STD patients.

Plans, coordinates, and adjusts patient care by identifying healthcare needs, allocating appropriate resources, consulting with physicians and other providers as needed, and making timely changes based on patient response to treatment.

Provides advanced nursing expertise and technical assistance to Parish Health Unit staff by implementing evidence-based healthcare strategies and collaborating with medical and nursing leadership to plan, implement, and evaluate Maternity, Family Planning, and STD programs.

Participates in quality assurance and quality improvement activities, including preparing reports, conducting QA audits and utilization reviews, and supporting adherence to OPH policies, procedures, and public health nursing standards.

Maintains accurate, confidential patient records and legal documentation in compliance with HIPAA, Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals-Office of Public Health policies, and Louisiana State Board of Nursing regulations; maintains required licensure, certifications, and continuing education.

Provides on-call and emergency response coverage during declared state emergencies, delivering advanced nursing care, supporting emergency preparedness and response activities, and serving as a clinical resource and role model to multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
