This Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) position with the Office of Public Health in Region 2 provides advanced primary and preventive health care to individuals, families, and communities across assigned parishes. The APRN works collaboratively with consulting physicians to deliver comprehensive patient care, including assessment, counseling, education, and referrals, while practicing in accordance with the Louisiana Nurse Practice Act and OPH policies. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on community health, work within a supportive public health team, and serve diverse populations through clinic-based care.
The ideal applicant should possess the following: Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) training Reproductive health experience
Possession of a current Louisiana Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or a temporary permit.
NOTE: The temporary APRN permit allows an APRN applicant to work in a limited capacity for up to 120 days while awaiting review for full APRN licensure by the nursing board. An APRN applicant cannot medically diagnose or medically manage patients until they are licensed and have prescriptive authority. If the APRN license is not received within the 120-day period and the permit expires, the employee must be removed from the position. Job Duties:
Conducts comprehensive health assessments
by obtaining detailed medical histories and performing physical examinations to determine diagnoses, provide medical treatment, and/or make appropriate referrals.
Plans, implements, and evaluates patient care plans
by identifying health problems, prescribing treatments and pharmaceuticals, reviewing diagnostic and laboratory data, and consulting with physicians and other providers as needed.
Provides advanced clinical services
including preventive and primary health care examinations such as Pap smears, breast and pelvic exams, family planning and STI services, and the insertion of Long-Acting Reversible Contraceptives (LARCs) when requested.
Delivers patient and family education and counseling
related to health conditions, treatment plans, preventive care, and appropriate referrals, while collaborating with multidisciplinary health care teams to ensure continuity of care.
Identifies community and population health needs
and contributes to strategies that improve access to comprehensive health services through education, resource coordination, and public health interventions.
Provides advanced professional guidance and technical assistance
to nursing and ancillary staff, participates in quality assurance activities, develops practice standards, and collaborates with medical and nursing leadership to enhance clinical practice and program outcomes.
Maintains accurate clinical documentation and professional competency
by creating legally compliant medical records and reports, participating in continuing education, and performing additional duties as assigned to support public health program objectives.
