The Comprehensive Optometrist works in clinics focusing on glaucoma and urgent eye care for patients of all ages. The role requires a broad scope of knowledge and experience in managing glaucoma, ocular disease, and disorders of the eye and visual system to maximize visual function and eye health. Responsibilities include providing glaucoma examinations and assessments, triaging acute eye‑related issues, diagnosing, treating, and managing ocular health conditions, collaborating closely with department glaucoma specialists and other NHS members, and participating in teaching and research.
Minimum Qualifications
Doctoral degree in optometry issued by an accredited school or college of optometry.
Optometry residency training in ocular disease.
Licensure by the California State Board of Optometry.
Thorough knowledge of optometry and skills essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to this position.
Thorough knowledge of eye disease diagnosis.
Effective communication of examination findings to patients.
Strong communication and presentation skills.
Ability to work with diverse client groups, including children.
Ability to provide direction and guidance to less experienced staff members.
Collaborative ability with staff, faculty, and members of the healthcare community across the campus.
Effective interpersonal skills.
Professional skills in delivering eye care, treatment, and diagnostic services to patients.
Demonstrated ability to use electronic medical record systems.
Special Conditions
May need to travel to satellite clinics.
Must be able to work various hours and days, including evening or Saturday clinics.
