Job Overview
The Department of OB/GYN at Columbia University Irving Medical Center seeks a faculty member to serve as Vice Chair of Research for the overall OB/GYN Department, with 20% clinical duties. The role provides leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight of the department’s research programs and activities, focusing on growth and sustainability of the research portfolio.
Responsibilities Expectations for the Vice Chair of Research include ensuring high‑quality and highly productive research and research education programs within regulatory and institutional guidelines; collaborating with senior leadership to drive, support, and model an innovation‑oriented culture focused on clinical and translational research; serving on the department’s executive leadership team and building collegial relationships; ensuring optimal operating effectiveness and strategic positioning of research programs; coordinating with executive leadership to support the department’s overall clinical, research, and education missions; maintaining a personal research program; and mentoring faculty, fellows, residents, and medical students. The individual will also spend 20% of time performing clinical activities in their specialty area and one day per week in clinical duties.
Minimum Qualifications
MD or equivalent degree
Board certification in General Obstetrics and Gynecology or board‑eligible
Leadership experience in research and intimate familiarity with grant acquisition
Preferred Qualifications
Sub‑specialty fellowship in Obstetrics and Gynecology
Existing NIH funding portfolio transferable to the Department of OB/GYN
