Vice President of Procurement – Food Manufacturing
Salary: $196,000 - $226,000 per year; 25% APB. Manage a team of 10+ direct reports.
Position Overview The VP of Procurement leads the company’s sourcing and purchasing functions to ensure cost efficiency, supply continuity, and strategic alignment with business objectives. This role oversees procurement operations for multiple manufacturing facilities and manages a team of category managers and site-level purchasing staff. Key responsibilities include driving cost‑reduction initiatives, negotiating supplier agreements, monitoring market trends, and optimizing sourcing strategies for key commodities.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy – Direct procurement teams across multiple locations, including category managers and site-level buyers; develop and implement sourcing strategies aligned with corporate goals, measured by purchase price variance (PPV) and other KPIs.
Goal Management – Set performance objectives for team members, conduct regular reviews, and foster continuous improvement and professional development.
Cost Optimization – Identify and execute cost‑saving opportunities through strategic sourcing, supplier negotiations, and process improvements.
Supplier Relations – Build and maintain strong partnerships with vendors to ensure reliability and competitive pricing.
Contract Negotiation – Lead RFP processes and negotiate agreements to secure favorable terms; review contracts for accuracy, compliance, and performance requirements.
Supply Assurance – Ensure timely availability of raw materials to meet production schedules while balancing inventory, shelf‑life, and cash‑flow considerations.
Market Intelligence – Monitor commodity markets and supplier trends to anticipate changes in pricing or availability; communicate significant developments to senior leadership promptly.
Commodity Strategy – Develop sourcing strategies for key inputs such as proteins, grains, oils, dairy, packaging, and other critical materials.
Legal Coordination – Collaborate with legal teams to finalize supplier agreements and resolve contractual issues.
Quality Support – Assist in addressing supplier‑related quality concerns and secure reimbursement for associated costs when applicable.
Innovation & R&D – Oversee sourcing for new materials required for product development and trials.
Product Launch Support – Ensure procurement readiness for new product introductions, including initial inventory planning and safety stock strategies.
Cost Standards – Lead annual material cost standard development based on market analysis, supply‑demand dynamics, global trends, and regulatory factors.
Reporting – Prepare and present procurement performance reports and strategic recommendations to executive leadership.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, or related field; MBA and professional certifications (CPM, CPSM, CPCM) preferred.
10+ years of leadership experience in procurement, strategic sourcing, and supplier management within food manufacturing or similar industries.
Proven ability to manage multiple projects in a fast‑paced, global environment.
Experience negotiating complex contracts and collaborating with legal counsel.
Strong presentation skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Willingness to travel as needed.
