Job Description AECOM is seeking a Project Manager (PM) to support a critical water/wastewater Capital Improvement Program (CIP) assignment in the greater Atlanta, Georgia area. PMs within the CIP Program Management Team (CIP PMT) are responsible for directly managing, on behalf of the client and in collaboration with client PMs, client contractors on select CIP projects to achieve cost, quality, risk, and schedule objectives. Responsibilities include ensuring program standards and protocols are followed and leading all project management functions across the planning, design, and construction phases.
Responsibilities Planning
Manage progress of Design Consultants (contracted through the client) to ensure Planning Phase work is completed on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with quality and risk requirements.
Coordinate and facilitate the procurement process for Design Consultants for Design Phase services.
Design
Manage Design Consultant progress during the Design Phase to ensure delivery to schedule, budget, and contractual quality/risk requirements.
Coordinate and facilitate reviews and meetings with the Design Consultant and client staff.
Construction
Manage progress of the Construction Contractor (CC) or Design‑Build Contractor (DBC) during the Construction Phase, ensuring adherence to schedule, cost, quality, and risk requirements, including:
Enforcing contract terms
Monitoring progress and driving CC/DBC recovery actions when schedule lags occur
Rapidly escalating performance issues to the client and/or senior management
Oversee the Construction Manager (CM) contracted through the client.
Perform or oversee timely reviews of RFIs, submittals, RFS/RFDs, field orders, CORs, and pay requests.
Reporting
Prepare and submit monthly project status reports to the client.
Provide updates and information to the PMT Program Manager (PgM), Deputy Program Manager, and Program Controls team.
Provide project‑level lessons learned to the PMT Deputy PgM for inclusion in the PMT lessons learned register.
Administrative Functions
Manage junior‑level staff assigned to projects under the PM’s responsibility.
Program Procedures
Maintain strong familiarity with program processes and champion their implementation, including ensuring contractors meet milestones, submit required work products on schedule, and meet all contractual requirements.
Implement project‑level procedures for project management functions as developed by the PgM and Deputy PgM.
Commercial Acumen
Demonstrate sound commercial judgment in interactions with Design Consultants, CCs, and DBCs.
Mentor junior project management staff on contract interpretation and best practices for holding contractors accountable to contract requirements.
Other Duties
Serving as a senior technical resource or technical advisor for the team.
Providing specialized technical input to studies and design within the candidate’s area of expertise.
Developing study and design procedures to enable high‑quality, cost‑effective work by others.
Participating in interdisciplinary reviews of project deliverables.
Preparing construction cost estimates and estimating technical effort for projects.
Using expertise in all steps required to complete the discipline component of PS&E packages.
Performing quality control reviews of design calculations or drawings.
Preparing technical specification sections.
Providing input into the development of engineering budgets and schedules to meet project requirements.
Qualifications Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction, business, or a related field plus 6 years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
Verifiable experience delivering multiple complex infrastructure projects and demonstrating sound commercial judgment in dealings with design consultants and construction contractors.
Proven track record addressing and driving rectification of performance issues in DCs, CCs, or DBCs.
Preferred Qualifications
5+ years of experience at the Project Manager level on projects or programs in the civil engineering and construction fields.
Master’s degree in engineering, business, or a related field.
Experience in assurances (risk management, contracting, insurance, etc.).
Experience with both conventional and design‑build contracting.
PE or PMP Certification.
Additional Information
Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
Compensation: USD 145,000 – 165,000 annually.
