Job Title: Specialist, Hardware Design Engineer Job Location: Salt Lake City, UT Job Code: 31950 Job Schedule: 9/80 – Employees work 9 out of every 14 days (80 hours total) and have every other Friday off. We are seeking an ambitious hardware engineer to help us design custom circuit technology for software‑defined radio applications. As a member of our team, you’ll build groundbreaking digital and RF circuits for the special operations and intelligence communities to address challenging national security problems and enable planning and decision‑making in diverse domains such as active threat deterrence, signal intelligence, cyber operations, machine learning, image processing, and applied data analytics. You’ll join a multidisciplinary team that values open, collaborative work. As a Hardware Design Engineer, you will assist in developing communication systems through board‑level integration of high‑speed digital components, commercially available chipsets, and embedded processors. Your responsibilities include schematic capture, simulations, PCB analysis, and layout. Essential Functions Document designs from requirements, testing procedures, and bill of material. Perform detailed performance and functional measurements and debug at a hardware level. Create custom circuit cards, utilizing FPGAs, embedded processors, networking components, and other electronic components. Characterize performance of hardware over a wide variety of environmental conditions. Use industry‑standard interfaces (e.g., 1GE, 10GE, 40GE, 100GE, SPI, UART, SDRAM, DDR3, DDR4, JESD, PCIe, 1000BASE‑T). Support test engineering with the transition of hardware to manufacturing testing. Contribute to design reviews and system integration. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or Electrical Engineering and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience. A graduate degree in one of these fields and a minimum of 2 years of experience is acceptable. In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience is required. Preferred Skills Minimum of 3 years of experience with CCA and hardware design. Familiarity with lab test equipment. Master’s degree preferred. 4 years’ experience with hardware verification, schematic capture, and PCB layout. Experience with laboratory debug techniques using digital scopes, logic analyzers, BERTs, and other complex measurement devices. Experience with Mentor Graphics tools is a plus. Familiarity with code revision management tools such as Git/ClearCase. Familiarity with Confluence or other information sharing tools.
