Kleinschmidt has a full-time opening for a Senior Scientist to support ecological assessments and water management projects in Portland, Oregon. California will also be considered. Our flexibility and core value of relationships allow us to offer employees the opportunity to work in a hybrid environment including working from the office and remotely.
Salary Salary: $115,000 - $130,000/year (based on experience)
Who You Are An experienced Aquatic Scientist with an MS or PhD in Aquatic Ecology, Hydrology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
10 years of field experience in streamflow measurement and habitat surveys. Experience with statistical analysis and ecological modeling (R, Python preferred). Familiarity with environmental flow standards and water management regulations.
Knowledgeable: Knowledge of water rights frameworks and instream flow policy. Strong knowledge of streamflow dynamics and aquatic species–habitat relationships. Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
Additional Requirements
Must possess permanent authorization to work in the United States.
Must be willing to travel and possess a valid driver’s license.
About the Position This role involves evaluating flow requirements for aquatic ecosystems, conducting habitat analysis, and providing science-based recommendations for sustainable water allocation.
Key Responsibilities
Lead instream flow assessments using methods such as PHABSIM, IFIM, and habitat simulation models.
Analyze hydrologic and ecological data to determine flow needs for aquatic organisms and riparian habitats.
Interpret hydraulic modeling results and GIS‑based habitat mapping.
Collect and interpret field data on streamflow, habitat conditions, and water quality.
Prepare technical reports and communicate findings to stakeholders and regulatory agencies.
