Senior Scientist
to support ecological assessments and water management projects in
Portland, Oregon
(California will also be considered). Our hybrid model allows employees to work from the office and remotely.
Salary:
$115,000 – $130,000 per year (based on experience).
Who You Are
An experienced Aquatic Scientist with an MS or PhD in Aquatic Ecology, Hydrology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
10+ years of field experience in streamflow measurement and habitat surveys, with statistical analysis and ecological modeling (R, Python preferred).
Knowledgeable in water rights frameworks, instream flow policy, streamflow dynamics, aquatic species–habitat relationships, and environmental flow standards.
Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
Additional Requirements
Permanent authorization to work in the United States.
Willingness to travel and possession of a valid driver’s license.
About the Position The role involves evaluating flow requirements for aquatic ecosystems, conducting habitat analysis, and providing science‑based recommendations for sustainable water allocation.
Key Responsibilities
Lead instream flow assessments using methods such as PHABSIM, IFIM, and habitat simulation models.
Analyze hydrologic and ecological data to determine flow needs for aquatic organisms and riparian habitats.
Interpret hydraulic modeling results and GIS‑based habitat mapping.
Collect and interpret field data on streamflow, habitat conditions, and water quality.
Prepare technical reports and communicate findings to stakeholders and regulatory agencies.
