Lead Electrical Engineer – Data Center – Mahwah, NJ (Onsite)
We are looking for a Lead Electrical Engineer to manage the electrical operations at our data center. The role includes overseeing distribution switchgear, ATS, UPS, PDU, SSPDU, RPPs, monitoring, installation, maintenance, repair, and ensuring compliance with NEC and other regulations. You will lead a team of journeyman and apprentices, focusing on productivity, safety, quality control, and efficient project delivery.
Job Description
The electrical lead will be responsible for the electrical operations at the data center including main distribution switchgear, operating, maintaining, repairing ATS, UPS, PDU's, SSPDU, RPPs, monitoring, and electrical installations.
Lead a team of journeyman and apprentices; manage productivity, safety, and quality control of electrical installations.
Perform troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs with thorough knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC).
Position General Duties And Tasks
Handle a diverse group of people and ensure they work according to scheduled plans and shifts.
Ensure that electrical operations run properly and are completed on time.
Provide hands‑on electrical repair and maintenance work to support leadership and team performance.
Study and comprehend blueprints, control drawings, specifications, contract documents, and building plans.
Organize, coordinate, and supervise the work of electrical employees on site projects.
Create and develop work plans for each electrical project.
Manage manpower for repair, maintenance, and installation projects, ensuring proper logistics.
Establish, adjust, and maintain work sequences to meet project schedules and timelines.
Oversee and monitor installation and troubleshooting of electrical wires and components.
Follow blueprints to ensure correct routing of wires and placement of outlets.
Ensure all workers follow PPE and safety procedures and that NEC and NFP 70 protocols are enforced.
Administer MOPs and SOPs for all work on critical facilities/data center equipment.
Recommend equipment and supplies, prepare job estimates, and perform visual inspections for maintenance requirements.
Prepare and maintain reports and records, monitoring expenditures regularly.
Basic Qualifications
5+ years of electrical experience, preferably in an industrial data center environment.
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
Additional Skills
Knowledge of commercial electrical systems, NEC, and local codes; holding a Master license and ability to pull permits.
Master or equivalent experience, military facilities training/certification equivalent.
Access and navigate all areas of the facilities and equipment.
Experience with MOPs and SOPs for critical facility equipment.
Desired Characteristics
Experience working in a data center environment.
Experience managing the company’s type of facilities, equipment, and events.
Experience working in ATS, RPP, PDU, UPS, VLA battery.
Project Management Experience Preferred
Strong verbal communication skills.
Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
Strong change agent.
Electrical trade certifications or equivalent military facilities training/certification.
