Base Pay Range $90,000–$110,000 per year.
Location : Bloomington, MN (primarily onsite with occasional WFH).
Position Summary Are you a well‑rounded tax professional who enjoys owning the full scope of corporate tax compliance while working closely with accounting leadership? This senior tax accountant / lead tax accountant role is a key position within a multi‑entity organization with operations across multiple states. The position is being created as a backfill due to an internal promotion and offers a unique opportunity to serve as the primary internal tax resource for the business. Reporting directly to the Controller, you will manage income tax, sales and use tax, and personal property tax compliance across the enterprise. This role is ideal for someone who has a strong public‑accounting foundation and has successfully transitioned into an in‑house tax environment or is ready to do so.
Essential Responsibilities
Own the preparation, coordination, and filing of federal, state, and local income tax returns, including pass‑through entities.
Manage multi‑state sales and use tax compliance, filings, and remittances across numerous jurisdictions.
Oversee personal property tax filings and related assessments.
Maintain book‑to‑tax reconciliations and track Schedule M adjustments.
Support depreciation and fixed asset tax reporting, including rental and fleet assets.
Manage exemption certificate compliance and related documentation.
Serve as the primary internal contact for tax‑related questions across the organization.
Partner with external advisors to support audits by federal, state, and local taxing authorities.
Assist with quarterly estimated tax payments, tax forecasting, and planning initiatives.
Maintain and improve the company’s tax systems and tools, including ERP and tax automation platforms.
Identify and implement process improvements to strengthen accuracy, compliance, and efficiency.
Maintain organized retention of tax returns, workpapers, and supporting documentation.
Contribute to special projects and cross‑functional initiatives as needed.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
5+ years of progressive tax experience.
Combination of public‑accounting and in‑house tax experience strongly preferred.
Direct experience with income tax, sales and use tax, and personal property tax highly desired.
CPA designation preferred but not required.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and tax compliance systems.
Ability to operate independently as the primary tax resource within an organization.
Strong communication skills with the ability to partner effectively across departments.
