Senior GIS Analyst / Survey Technician
– AMT Engineering – Herndon, VA
Overview Morton Thomas and Associates, Inc. (AMT), an employee‑owned consulting engineering firm, is seeking a Senior GIS Analyst / Survey Technician to join our team in the Herndon, VA office. The position will entail working in a dual role to perform both GIS and survey assignments.
Responsibilities
Perform GIS activities including georeferencing, creating spatial features, developing databases, and converting data between coordinate systems.
Conduct Quality Control Review of georeferencing, GIS input, and deliverables.
Provide training to GIS staff and support project managers.
Prepare topographic and boundary survey finished drawings, easement and right‑of‑way drawings, and as‑built survey drawings.
Perform survey computations for deed composites and data processing of topographic and boundary survey file collections.
Conduct property, deed, and plat research.
Perform field survey data collection as needed.
Other duties as assigned by the licensed surveyor.
Qualifications
2‑ or 4‑year degree in surveying, geography, or engineering (preferred).
8 years or more of surveying and/or GIS experience.
Proficiency with ArcGIS Pro and AutoCAD; experience with MicroStation is a plus.
Ability to read and understand property plats, maps, engineering plans, and architectural plans.
Proficiency in CAD, GIS, and survey software; familiarity with Bluebeam, Adobe, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Strong team player who manages and prioritizes multiple concurrent assignments.
Ability to work overtime when necessary.
