Amentum is seeking a qualified Aircraft Mechanic I specialized in Egress and/or Environmental Control Systems (F/A-18E/F and EA-18G experience required) to support U.S Naval Air Station maintenance operations at NAS Whidbey Island. Aircraft Mechanic I must have a combination of experience to repair engines, sheet metal, structural, hydraulic, electrical, power train and general mechanical maintenance of moderate difficulty necessary to meet assigned missions.
Essential Responsibilities Makes repairs to aircraft and follows direction of higher graded workers. Troubleshoots malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti‑icing, pneu‑hydraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems. Repairs, replaces and rebuilds aircraft structures, such as wings and fuselage, and functional components including rigging, surface controls and plumbing and hydraulic units using hand tools, power tools, machines and equipment such as shears, sheet metal brake, welding equipment, rivet gun and drills. Reads and interprets manufacturers' and airline's maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components. Replaces or repairs worn or damaged components, such as carburetors, alternators, magnetos, fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps and engine mounted gearboxes, and compressor bleed valves using hand tools, gauges and testing equipment, removing engine from aircraft, using hoist or forklift truck, disassembling and inspecting parts for wear, cracks, security or other defects. Adjusts, repairs or replaces electrical wiring system and aircraft accessories, performs preflight, thru‑flight and post‑flight maintenance inspections, performs miscellaneous duties to service aircraft, including flushing crankcase, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts and checking brakes. Supervises the jacking and towing of aircraft, enters maintenance records and verifies work was performed satisfactorily. Service engines and airframe components at line station making repairs short of overhaul required to keep aircraft in safe operating condition, specializing in work, repair and modification of structural, precision and functional spare parts and assemblies, and specializing in engine repair. Must be licensed by Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) if required. May require specialization in sheet‑metal, electric work, avionics or other aircraft systems related disciplines. FAA licensing of contractor employee technical proficiency is not required.
Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
High School diploma or equivalent; three (3) years of job‑related experience required.
Three (3) years F/A-18E/F or EA-18G experience.
Ability to troubleshoot and repair complex malfunctions and perform complex organizational‑level maintenance actions in support of the EA‑18G aircraft.
Selected candidates required to hold this position for one year.
Must possess level of experience to inspect all assigned aircraft, certify aircraft/engine logbook entries and possess one or more of the following specialties: Propulsion/Engine and Fuel Systems
Airframe/Structural, Landing Gear, Launch/Arresting, Wing/Pylon Fold; Hydraulic/Pneumatic, and mechanical Flight Control Systems
Egress and/or Environmental Control Systems (F/A-18E/F and/or EA-18G experience required)
Aviation Life Support Systems (ALSS)
Avionics Communication/Navigation/Identification/Electronic/Counter measures/RADAR and Weapon Control Systems (EA-18G experience required)

Good oral and written communication skills; working knowledge of word‑processing and integrated software applications; organizational skills and ability to perform detail‑oriented work.
Must pass and maintain a Security Clearance and meet physical requirements associated with or pass any medical examination requirements related to daily assigned tasks.
Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. US Citizenship required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
Position requires travel.
Compensation & Benefits HIRING HOURLY Rate of Pay: $43.79 (Hourly rate set by CBA). Current: $43.79. On or around 1/1/2027: $45.10.
Benefits include: 8.05 per hour paid, up to 80 hours per pay period for medical, dental, AD&D insurance, vision, life insurance, long‑term disability, employee assistance program and short‑term disability. Paid vacation, 11 paid holidays annually, pension and 401k.
