Citarella is a family‑run gourmet market that combines a celebrated NYC fish market heritage with prime dry‑aged beef, chef‑prepared specialties, artisanal pastries and imported groceries. Our locations span New York City, the Hamptons and Greenwich, CT. We pride ourselves on delivering exceptional service and the finest selection of fresh food.
Role & Responsibilities We are seeking an experienced, strategic, and results‑oriented
Store Manager
to lead the daily operations of one of our premier gourmet markets. In this key leadership role, you will be fully responsible for the store’s performance, profitability, and operational excellence. You will guide and inspire a multi‑department team, foster a culture of exceptional service, and ensure that every customer experience reflects the high standards of the Citarella brand.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee and manage all aspects of daily store operations to maximize sales, profitability, and efficiency.
Analyze store performance metrics and implement strategies to improve sales, labor costs, shrink, and overall productivity.
Lead and cultivate a positive, high‑performance work environment that promotes teamwork and accountability.
Recruit, hire, train, and develop store leadership and associates across all departments.
Ensure all team members receive ongoing coaching, training, and support to grow performance and maintain brand standards.
Maintain exceptional product quality and ensure all merchandise is properly displayed, stocked, and aligned with brand guidelines.
Achieve and exceed revenue, margin, and expense control goals while driving growth in sales opportunities.
Champion superior customer satisfaction and hold the team accountable for delivering exceptional service at all times.
Oversee all aspects of store merchandising, inventory management, ordering/receiving, waste control, and returns.
Create, manage, and approve store and department schedules to ensure efficient labor coverage.
Ensure consistent adherence to company policies, procedures, and operational standards.
Oversee and safeguard financial operations including inventory accuracy, product cost management, cash handling, safe controls, and POS transactions.
Manage and execute required administrative duties, including payroll, invoices, reporting, and inventory documentation.
Serve as the primary store leader, resolving operational issues, customer concerns, personnel needs, and vendor interactions.
Perform additional tasks, projects, and responsibilities as needed based on business priorities.
Qualifications
Minimum
5 years of store management experience
in a food, grocery, or multi‑department retail environment (or equivalent).
Demonstrated success in leading teams, developing talent, and driving operational excellence.
Proven ability to deliver exceptional customer satisfaction and strong financial results.
Strong experience working with performance metrics, product specifications, and retail management systems.
Deep understanding of food and beverage operations.
Outstanding guest service and communication skills.
Expertise in
health, food safety, and sanitation regulations ; experience with the Department of Health or Department of Agriculture is a plus.
Strong coaching, leadership, and staff development skills.
Ability to operate basic kitchen equipment and understand back‑of‑house processes.
Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and time‑management skills.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Computer proficiency and comfort working with multiple systems.
Willingness to travel between store locations as needed.
Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including standing for extended periods and lifting up to 50 lbs.
