Position Overview We are seeking an experienced
Oncology Nursing Unit Director (RN)
to lead a highly specialized
22-bed blended Medical‑Surgical/Progressive Oncology Care Unit
at a
Commission on Cancer (COC)–accredited facility . This leadership role is ideal for a passionate oncology nurse leader who excels at driving clinical excellence, patient experience, staff engagement, and quality outcomes in complex cancer care.
As the Unit Director, you will combine the
science and art of nursing leadership , collaborating closely with interdisciplinary teams to deliver compassionate, evidence‑based oncology and palliative care.
Key Responsibilities
Create and sustain a
safe, healthy, and engaging environment
for patients, families, and staff
Ensure compliance with
quality, safety, and patient care standards
Monitor, evaluate, and improve
patient experience, quality metrics, and clinical outcomes
Lead and supervise nursing and support staff, ensuring high standards of care delivery
Implement continuous improvement initiatives related to
quality, patient safety, and engagement
Facilitate
professional development , education, performance evaluations, and succession planning
Develop and execute
staff retention and engagement strategies , including rounding and recognition programs
Maintain high visibility through staff and patient interaction to foster a positive unit culture

Required Qualifications Education
Graduate of an accredited professional nursing program
BSN required
(Magnet designation)
ADN accepted
with a related master’s degree
Certifications
OCN – Oncology Certified Nurse (Required)
AHA BLS‑HCP (Required)
Experience
Minimum
3 years of nursing leadership experience
Healthcare leadership experience strongly preferred
Licensure
Active
Registered Nurse license in the Commonwealth of Virginia
